Prince, Michael Jackson, and Madonna. Nuff said. Throw in Van Halen, Journey, Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Gun and Roses, Janet Jackson, and Late 80s Rap emergence.

i think it depends on which music scene we're talking about.

cant argue with mr scarfaces list a couple posts up...well, maybe journey but to each their own. and id probably have to say prince is the single greatest artist of the 80's.

but if we're talking about the new wave music scene (or whatever it was called before it was "alternative") id have to give the nod to the UK.

the cure, depeche mode, peter gabriel, erasure, the smiths, tears for fears, the police, U2, new order.

not really "new wave" or "alternative", but dont forget about george michael, simple minds or phil collins.

    Austrians count as Germans.

According to my German buddy, they don’t because they didn’t pay their reparations.

I think the US made a lot of progress as the 80s went on, but I don't think it caught up to (or overtook) the UK until the 90s.

Hair metal and ballads negate any good that came out of the US.

One of my all time favorites. Song gave me the feels when it dropped back in 89.

I also love the movie and made my son and his friends watch it a few years ago. They were real snooty about it at first but got in to it.

This right here is the height of aunt Becky's career.

Ah, RAD. I used to pretend I was Cru Jones on my mongoose back in my middle school days.

Barry, It's your cousin! Your cousin Marvin. You know that new sound you've been looking for... listen to this.
For bands that used synths, I'd say the UK and it's not even close.
You wanted your rock and roll, pure then the USA.

80s Pop music: USA, even Eddie Murphy's "Party All The Time" would out duel any pop song by a solo artist from the UK
    80s Hip Hop: USA
