OK, first off, what is with the random rimbaud attacks recently? I hardly even post anymore and yet it is still cool to act as if I am a raging egomaniac (and with so little to base such accusations upon)? Secondly, which post are you talking about? I only ask because perhaps it was a typo and you meant "posts". You know, because they were both super awesome.
You know who I was just thinking about punching in the face the other day? rimbaud. No joke. Lets hate him.
I'm no scholar & never claim to be one! But It's still the teachings of Christ that I'm interested in! Unless you lived in Christ's time, you really don't know the whole story. Jesus, before his crucifixtion, told Peter to build His Church, in which Peter built it in Rome. He was believed to be the first Pope! I'm sure Jesus didn't say it would be named The "Catholic Church", this was probably later on by others. But the principles of his teachings are still true today, that were preserved by the faithful & martyrs throughout the ages! Just read the Holy Bible, you will get the info there.
Boy ain't that the truth. Lets ask the Gospel writers since they all kept record of Jesus' every move and published books soon after his death, instead of waiting 30-40 years later when details would have been sketchy at best and prone to hyperbole.
btw, is there a denomination that doesn't believe in a literal heaven/hell? i think it was madmax who's mentioned before that he believes they are metaphors (couldn't be sure, though). i just think that, when you take heaven and hell out of the mix, you are left with the christians who are truly christ-like and selfless.
Everytime you use an exclamation point, Jesus kills a baby raptor. Please, don't make Jesus hurt the baby raptors!
this is true. at this point you could pretty much do a spot-on stereotype of non-denominational christians just like you'd do for baptists or catholics.
They all ultimately lead to the same thing, eternal salvation. Personally, I was raised Catholic but as I grew up I disagreed with many of the things I was learning and started doubting the chruch all together. Only in the past 5-6 years have I found a true church home in a non-denominational church here in Pearland. The differences are mainly disputed between its individual members, I think it is just a matter of what you are comfortable with, Jesus said to praise his father in the way you feel closest to him, IMO that was the creation of denominations.
I try to avoid theological debates, but this is simply you projecting what you think it means to be Christ-like. We can debate all we want to about denominations and what not (which I will not do) but you cannot deny that Christ taught that a heaven (of some sort) was real, and that there was an opposite of heaven. Whether that it is a fiery inferno and a golden street city is up for debate, but Jesus was clear that there is a present with the father and an absent from the father.
Just as you question the literal interpretation of "fiery inferno" or "golden streets", some might propose that the concept is nothing more than metaphor.
Finals-The Holy Bible clearly states that there is a heaven & hell! In the New Testaments, WE should have all gone to eternal damnation after death, but Jesus Christ's death- paid for our sin debts in full. Unless, you don't believe in him or God, & is very wicked & not repenting! then I shudder where will you end up. It says in the New Testament- if you want salvation, just pray to Christ to let Him into your heart, repent for your sins, & believe in him & his Heavenly father (God)! This is it, it's just that simple.
I would respond but I can't read what you wrote with all that bright green going on around your post. You should be more considerate of others. I hate to admit this but I have about 4000 rep points but I begged Clutch to keep me at two muted green squares because I find it more dignified.
It would be incredibly hard to make a case that being Christ-like includes setting aside the notion of eternity with the Father. You'd have to argue that Christ was being metaphorical in everything he taught and that every single piece of the New Testament is simply metaphorical.
