Is Dalembert even available? Kings traded for him already. Yes the akings have been a good trade partner but they have one young center in Cousins, and they gave up Hawes. So not sure he's available
I'm surprised Okafor is doing so well in the poll. He's greatly overpaid and has 4 years left on his contract. Who wants to pay their backup center $13 or $14 million? At least Chandler's contract is expiring. And Gortat makes half of what those guys are.
I agree. I think his contract is too long and too big. I like Biedrins and his contract is better but still a bit much for a backup. Most of the other choices have more reasonable contracts, either expiring or smaller.
I have been begging for Omeka for the longest time. He is pricey, but dude can rebound, block and play defense like few can nowdays.
I voted Okafor. I also would hope if the Rockets got Okafor that they would get another player in the same deal though.
Terrible thread title. it makes it sound like the Rockets got someone already. I voted Chandler- think he can handle medium minutes, and his expiring contract could be a good asset. Plus he can be more aggressive going after blocks if he knows he's only going to be out there 15-20' a night.
Sure, but are you really counting that Yao will finish the season healthy? Okafor is actually a starting center precisely for that eventuality (don't even want to mention).
I like Chandler and Biedrins, but the intriguing one for me would be Okafor. He's been incredibly durable the last three years, playing all 82, and with solid numbers, averaging low double/doubles. Though pricey for his production, bringing him home could be the change of scenery he needs to take the next step up.
Totally thinking the same thing...you want someone who can defend and rebound..this is your guy and he is still pretty young. And as far as his contract, the guy has been consistent his whole career, so I think he would be a great backup center to yao.
I am not surprised in the least. I hate that this sounds elitist, but it just shows the ignorance of a good section of fans in this forum.
Would be a good get. Doesn't have the shot blocking of Chandler, but is smart, knows Adelman's system, is tough minded and can handle the C minutes. Probably comes in at a modest cost too. Fits this team's mindset.
For the life of me, I cannot understand the infatuation with Chandler. He has a ridiculous contract for minimal production. Everyone is saying that they want him for his expiring contract, but what would you turn that expiring contract into? Let me guess: CP3! Then there's a chance that we would be going into 2011 with no cap space and no center (but more than likely, no CP3). Has everyone fallen in love with the notion of constantly trading for assets and picks and expring contracts for the possibilty of acquiring something in the future, and totally forgotten about winning now? Is Emeka Okafor overpaid? Yes. But we just got through paying someone $17M to sit on the bench for an entire year. And for about half the games in the 3-4 years before that. How many games has Okafor played in during that time? Every single one of them! If you can get him for the suggested price of Jeffries, cash and filler, you have to do it. If Yao turns out to be OK, you've got two very good centers and a team that competes for a championship. Why hold out for future possibilities when what you're looking for (a championship) is right there for the taking? We need someone that, should Yao go down or be unable to answer the bell at all, can fill in for the remainder of the year and perhaps beyond. If Yao were able to come out and play like himself for 28 minutes a game this year, are you telling me you wouldn't prefer the extra minutes (and likely several games that Yao is out) to be taken by Okafor over Chandler? The Rockets have wasted many millions of dollars and many games due to the roster having extremely frail players. Wouldn't it be worth it to pay a little extra for someone who actually plays the games and can produce some sort of tangible results over someone who you grabbed simply because they have an expiring contract? And this isn't necessarily about Okafor. I would take Dalembert, Gortat or Przybilla before Chandler.
Dalembert would be a solid backup for Yao and plays for a team we have a recent history of dealing with, but why do the Kings move him? He has a large ($12 million) expiring contract, which is very valuable. Of course, Sacto is below the cap, so maybe they'd be willing to do a deal for picks and young talent. Worth thinking about.
