You've never coached or managed any kind of team have you?

Good leaders know that it's better to be feared than loved. If you don't set the ground rules, the you will lose the respect of those underneath you and team play will suffer.

Yes we don't know this situation, but we do know JVG has a big dog house that lots of players have been in and is sparse with minutes to subs he is not fully comfortable in.

I would not call it outregeous. I think it is predictable based on JVG and Snyder's history.

    I agree.

Not true for professional sports. You have a very limited supply of the best talent. The best coaches get what they can out of the talent available to them even if they have some issues.

JVG act of overburdening the vets he is "comfortable" with (perhaps to the point of burn out) and having a big dog house of usefull talent is getting tired.

If we lose in the 1st round because we are tired and have not integrated the pieces available (Bonzi, Snyder) he should be gone. It will be time to see if a new guy can get more out of the Rockets talent.

I don't want to go to the far of players coaches like Rudy T, but remember he was able to Mad Max (unstable hot head) and Barkley (practice?, conditioning?) to fit like glove. I get the sense JVG never could have done that.

JVG, this year should be your last chance to get things right, you need to work with what you got, not your ideals of how they should be.

A offcourt problem again? Who is a next player? Likely is would be Jake.

Exactly! Some of you guys are getting so worked up about "Man, Kirk plays hard I see it!" But you weren't there during practice, and that's when the disagreement showed up. Quit looking for a reason to blame JVG for everything. Kirk has his answer for being on the active list- play harder during practice. If he does that, he'll be fine. It's nobody's fault but his own now.

Yeah... this is really nothing new with Kirk. He had issues with both of his last coaches, and spent a lot of time on the bench because of it. Why do you think we got the Hornets former starting SG for small cash and a second rounder?

    Just a few quotes...

...and there was that taunting JVG thing when he was on the Jazz.

Hopefully he matures, because he's got a ton of talent and natural ability

It will never mature under JVG. JVG does not provide the incentive or chance to new players to excell. The only kind of players that will excell under JVG are players like Battier or Bowen or Hayes. These players are not very talented but provide a lot of hustle and effort. Unfortunately, in the NBA you need more talent than hustle in order to win chanpionships.

Exactly. Could it be a JVG issue? Maybe. Could it be a Snyder issue? More than likely based upon his history. He wa not only in Sloan's doghouse, he was in Byron Scott's doghouse. Scott basically called him a selfish player in his stint there. I want Snyder in there as an extra body with ahleticism, but not at the cost of team unity/chemistry.

Yes, Battier is not very talented... he was high school and college player of the year, one of the best man-on-man defenders in the league, one of the best 3 point shooters in the league, has one of the highest basketball IQ's in the league, but talented? Nah.

Those are players that listen to their coach and bust their butts on the court and probably in practice. Those are the players that get time. JL3 is getting time, hell even Novak is starting to see some minutes.

It is very disappointing that Snyder is in the doghouse just when we thought he was a solid contributor. No one really knows who's at fault here. But given JVG's no-nonsense approach and Snyder's headcase history, it isn't hard to see whom we should trust in this case.

I meant mature as in mentally... not as in skill. That's completely independent of JVG, and is solely on Kirk.

Playing time is the incentive... work hard every time, do your job well, and you get to play. Consistently make stupid mistakes or slack off and you ride the pine. Mope, complain, and waste your opportunities and even the bench becomes too good for you.

Nothing wrong with that concept, imo.

But there are not enough of these guys. You also have to get something out of talented guys with issues. That is what Jackson does (Rodman, Pip, Dele), Riley has as well (look what buy in he got out of Walker and Williams and Payton last year for instance).

The problem is that it isn't just Snyder. Wells, Swift, Mo T, probably others to. These are players that don't fit the above descriptions, these are probably not fun guys to coach and have a large bonehead factors to put it mildly. But again, the best coaches can get production out of boneheads and head cases, even if only for a season or two when they are needed. JVG will need to find a way to get something out of Bonzi or Snyder or IMO we just don't have the horses to beat the best of the best, even with A games by Tmac and Yao. What killed us versus Dallas 2 years ago was being out manned and out athletic in the spots around Yao/Tmac.

This is the major flaw in in JVG's coaching ability. all the greats can get the best out of headcases and boneheads, except JVG, he just refuses to deal with them. Sometimes you need those type of guys on your team, and thats what seperates him from the great coaches in the nba

We're in the stretch run right now. If this was the beginning of the season, I completely agree that he should focus on getting Snyder and/or Bonzi mixed into the rotation. But Bonzi and Snyder missed significant time with injuries. Then, when Snyder got back JVG wanted a short rotation to ensure we win as many games as possible in Yao's absence. Now we have about a month left. Do we try to work in another change to the rotation, or do we stick with an 8 or 8 1/2-man rotation where everyone has established, regular, and significant roles?

That is exactly what some ignorant "leader" or "boss" would say.

Truth is tht every study has shown that treating people with respect gets increased production and more loyal employees.

Allowing Snyder to slack off without any repurcussions would be disrespectful to the rest of the team.

I have the top secret, exact transcript of the Incident:

(Snyder misses an shot and fails to run back on transition D, easy fastbreak points for Battier)

JVG: Time out! What was that, Kirk?
    KS: Sorry coach...
JVG: That ain't gonna cut it. Any more of that **** and you are wearing a suit. That's just lazy...
KS: Man, **** that... lazy? I work my ass off and can't get no minutes.... Bonzi Wells is 275 lbs and get minutes. Kirk is in good shape. Luther Head weighs 135 and gets killed on D. Kirk is in good shape. Kirk is strong.. **** that ****...
JVG: Go take a shower... and don't bother showing up tonight.

I hope you are joking. In fact, I hope a lot of you all are joking.

    Care to look at history?

    Spreewell was coached by JVG.
    Oakley was coached by JVG.

Whether you accept it or not, these were headcases, and JVG coached them and got the best out of their abilities. Your putrid hate for JVG has caused you to not do your search and talk out of you a**, so I recommend before making such comments you go ahead and look at JVG's past, and make some observations.

Oh yeah, did we forget that JVG is coaching Rafer Alston, another headcase. Whether he sucks as our PG is not the issue, but that he was a headcase in Toronto before coming to Houston.

JVG has been an excellent coach throughout the years, and if a 38-24 record does not make you happy, I have no idea what will. Kirk Snyder is talented, no doubt, but it's not as if he came here not having a history of run ins with the coach. This guy is a headcase, and JVG is not going to take s*** from anyone. If he was such a bad coach, players wouldn't like him, but you don't see that do you?

here are the today's reports after Kirk was not in JVG's active list.

    http://sports.sohu.com/20070311/n248641120.shtml
    http://sports.sohu.com/20070311/n248641078.shtml

    The main points are:

    1. What happened last night made Kirk settle down and think deeper. He said
"Coach knew what to do and he pointed out that. He did a good job and I pretty much know that I still have a lot to improve"
"For me, it's a learning experience. As a player, you must learn from that. What I need most is to stay consistent. I have to keep that way because I haven't played in playoff season."
"I think, its kinda a bit sudden at first. But he did well and should do that, because he need something to prove his attitude. And now I can understand that. Thats not the way we both wanna go. I must take that as a lesson."
"He saw some problems in me and hoped that I could improve, but I didn't respond well. As simple as that, we dont have any (personal) problem."

    2. It seems the so called conflict has been over between them. "He looks not bad" JVG said after today's practice and confirmed that Kirk would in tomorrow's active list. He restated his points about yesterday's disagreement. "Kirk played well in Denver and Cleveland. He gives us the bad needed speed, especially in defense when we deal with high speed team. I'm not upset with his play in games. I'm just upset with his practice attitude in a day. I told him where the problem was, but he didn't respond well. That's it."

Fear does not get you respect with the NBA high talent. Tough management assignment for coaches, but diplomacy is the only way- or like Phil Jackson with the books and zen approach-with psychology.

Notice - JVG will never call out Tracy or Yao-only secondary players like Bonzi, V-span, or Snyder. The exception being Francis- JVG called him out for some ridiculous business about not going with the team on a plane to California for a game. Francis had attended a Super Bowl party I recall with JayZ and Beyonce.

You will not see successful coaches use fear to motivate or gain respect. I expect George Karl will get fired or quit Denver for calling out Carmelo to the media. AI out lasted Larry Brown in Philadelphia.

That iron ass approach will not work in today's NBA.
