What a nice way to kick the guy while he's down.

I don't understand the point of this. OP must have been drunk.

What's with the hate for Rafer? He's a starting PG on a team that went to the finals. :)

With that said, Brooks and Lowry are better for this team. Rafer is very good at setting up the offense. He was good for the team when the offense revolved around Yao and Tracy. Now, Brooks and Lowry are the better fit.

He was NEVER good for the Rockets, they would have been better served to let Brooks play as a rookie, or VSpan the year before.....because when push comes to shove Rafer would have been exposed in the worst way at the worst time.

He just flat out is a fringe NBA player, who somehow got a starting spot and an MLE deal.

He should count his blessings....before he is out of the league when his contract is up.

I think the switch was at the right time. If they woulda done this a year or 2 earlier, I think everyone on this board woulda hated Brooks the same way you guys are treating Rafer. Hell Brooks couldnt even get playing time over Bjax when Rafer was hurt. Rafer was a starter for a reason for so many years on this team. He beat out all our pgs including this very special pg that DD also told us was the answer. :p

Brooks is the answer....as we can all plainly see now....some of us just look through more lengthy lenses.

lol VSpan couldn't outplay Rod Strickland. Rafer will get another contract, maybe not at the money he's making now but he would be a solid backup for some team. Geez, the Wiz signed Earl Boykins to a deal so Rafer should be able to play for someone.

So you are argueing that the coaches are stupid or mad. Did the coaches JVG and RA rather used a worse player Rafer than a better Rooky player? Rockets brought in a lots pg and Rafer beat them all, including AB. They said Rafer was faster than AB. Rafer's trade was obviously a one 'for future not for now'. If they wanted AB start, they could let him start and let Rafer be the leader in the 2nd unit.

Rafer is no good shooter. But he is a very coachable player. His shot was good shot that coach asked him to shoot. So the coaches never complained about his shooting, only fans complained.

Coaches can sometimes be short sighted. Win today at all costs... including the cost of developing a young player with more talent that might actually help you get to a championship.

Sometimes it's a comfort level of knowing what you are going to get. JVG knew Rafer would give him some decent things protecting the ball. But sometimes you have to hand the keys to a young unproven player like RA did last season in order for you team to take the next step.

JVG got slammed on this board time and time again for playing Ryan Bowen as opposed to developing the younger talent. So as far as I'm concerned Alston falls into the same category as Ryan Bowen. He is just someone that the coach became comfortable with.

Yeah, I am saying the Rockets coaches made a mistake, YES....coaches are creatures of habit, and while they thought they were doing the best thing for their team to win that game that particular night, they were wrong in starting Rafer.

Why? Because by not developing a replacement for him, they were handcuffing the entire team to Rafer's bipolar ways, and his inconsistency.

Just look at this year, they are playing Brooks and Lowry, and if one is off, we have a better chance that the other one is not.....under JVG and RA early, Rafer was it.....we had no one else, and so the team was beholden to how well Rafer did.

That, IMO, was a big mistake.....

They should have put Brooks in as a backup much earlier, and the year before that, under JVG, VSpan should have been getting backup minutes, because ignoring development when your PG is putrid is a mistake IMO.

Lowry for Rafer has ended up being a very good trade, except for being stuck with Brian Cook for 2 years. Glad that contract is coming to an end.

It's taking a shot because his name is not Airballston.

I personally think giving players stupid nicknames like that is lame.

I think Rafer earned his nickname so why do you want to rob it from him! :p

Do you not get my point? Did I say you could not say Rafer sucks at shooting the ball. You're the one asked how was he taking a shot at Rafer and I said by calling him Airballston. Last time I checked his name was Rafer Alston or his real nickname was Skip To My Lou.

    Slightly off tangent,

but I seriously doubt Brooks is our Future at PG; well because he ISN'T a PG.

I still think once we get a real PG...brooks would be best served coming off the bench in a Jason Terry like manner
