When you judge a player, you have to look at his entire career. Yao should not be above Chris Webber, who was a superstar for at least three years in his career. I dobut that Yao will ever achieve that. However, Yao is above Elton Brand, just because of the fact that Yao has been to the playoffs while Elton has not. KMart is a decent player, nothing more. He ain't even all-star material. The Big Dog was a much better player than KMart earlier in his career. Here's my list: 1. Shaq 2. Duncan 3. AI 4. Lebron 5. Webber 6. Yao 7. Brand 8. Glen Robinson 9. KMart 10. Joe Smith 11. Kwame 12. Kandi
if Brand is so great - why do his teams all suck ? remember fellas I little known "power" forward named Mo Taylor ALSO put up big numbers on the Clipers K Mart is useless too - he was a role player on those teams with Kidd
If so, it's unfair to compare Yao & Bron whose career has just started to some well established players like AI and Shaq whose careers are about over.
Here's my pick: Duncan Shaq Iverson Yao Brand Webber Lebron Glen Robinson KMart Joe Smith Kandi man Kwame Brown I think Duncan is going to be better than Shaq when he's done Iverson was pretty good just not always on a good team. Brand has been solid. Webber was hyped but not turned out as good as he's projected. K Mart is good because of a extremely good PG that make scrub look like good players. Right now, Kwame Brown deserved to be at the bottom, he could move up a bit.
it's a shame that his defensive presence doesn't seem as important as it should.... i mean how many times have we seen a guard get within 5 feet of the rim and pass out because they realize yao is sitting there. i know he gets posterized more than we'd like, but i think people avoid him a lot more than he gets credit for. on the list the only guys who's defense adds to their offense significantly are duncan, shaq, and a little for lebron (too early to see if he can sustain it). also the list will change in a few years in yao's favor. lets face it everyone is probably already playing their best - with the exception of yao, lebron (not much better though), and ?kwame?. so expect him to move over the years...
It's pretty sad if you are ranked behind Kandiman. Watch the game last night, that guy is just....hooooorrrrrible.
With all that talent surround him year in and year out, why cant he carry the team to playoff if he is that good.
Ya, the guy is just terrible to watch out there. I'm glad the Wiz are having a good season this year. MJ straight screwed them over by picking Kwame, if they would have chosen a true #1 pick, who knows where they would be.
LeBron is so freaking impressive, it's scary to think what he'll be doing at age 25... and putting Yao in front of Iverson was a difficult decision but you can't ignore Yao's uniqueness and after 2.5 years, his upside STILL is huge. 1. Shaq 2. Duncan 3. Lebron 4. Yao 5. Iverson 6. Webber 7. Brand Wow, I don't know how you guys can rank K-Mart above Yao. That's amazing to me. Personally, the difference between the above 7 and the following are huge. As in like different leagues. 28. K-Mart 29. Glen Robinson 30. Kwame Brown 31. Joe Smith 32. Kandi-man stuart
let's first define what qualifies a good player. Team winning record, or his playing style. You swap Yao with Brand, can we do better than we are doing right now? Can the clippers go to playoff with Yao, Corey, Jaric, etc. Same goes along with Kmart. Put Yao in east, pair him with anybody even Frnacis. That team is going to be a force right away.
I think that KMart is much better than the rest of the others. Of course Kandiman is so bad that he is in a league of his own.
I would have to say that Brand is slowly going to move above Webber becuase of how injury prone Webber has become and the consistancy at which Brand plays is really great.
Y'know, Brand has the Shareef Abdul-Rahim syndrome (SARS?), playing well and consistent for bad and most of the time, losing teams. I am not saying it's his fault, but with the emphasis on playing well and winning, he will always be behind Webber until that occurs. Stuart
Didn't one coach have someone foul Rodman six times in like two minutes? And I think someone (Nellie?) has done Hack-a-Shaq the same way, too.... It reminds me of good old Charles Jones, more career fouls (2079) than points (1826).
This is a good post. Oh, I'd agree with the exact ranking. I think Yao's a much better player than either Martin or Brand. But the real point is that, as #1 picks goes, Yao's sort of middle-of-the-road. Far from a bust, far from one of the all-conquering players that are at the top of that list. At the very least, that list should shut up the idiots who consider Yao a #1 bust.
