No Way Category, do you even watch basketball category:
    MJ
    Kobe
    West
    Gervin
    Drexler
    Wade
    Iverson
*T-Mac (I guess some poster want to omit Tracy...we'll take him out)
    Pistol Pete
    Miller
    Allen
    Thompson
Richmond (already at 13, and not counting Dantley, Pierce, Havlicek as shooting guards)

It's closer to a toss up, but I think Ginobili still loses (against most of these players) category
    Dumars
    Carter
    Lou Hudson
    B.Free
    Marques Johnson
    Goodrich
    Hal Greer
    Earl Monroe
    Gus Williams
    Walter Davis (#22)

Not quite as sure group (still I cannot say faithfully Ginobili is better)
Reggie Theus (stuck on bad teams)
    Sidney Moncrief
    Latrell Sprewell
    Sam Jones
    Otis Birdsong
    Rolando Blackman
    Richard Hamilton
    Penny Hardaway (????)

It's a toss up, Ginobili probably wins category, but it's alot closer than some of you think.
    Jamal Mashburn
    Monta Ellis
    Jimmy Walker
    Eddie Jones
    Jeff Malone
    Joe Johnson
    Allan Houston
    Norm Nixon
    Michael Finley
    Ricky Pierce

He's not in my top 20. The only thing Ginobili has over most of these players, outside of top 8 is rings. People know perfectly well that such a thing pertains more to team success.

A poster just said he has barely played over 30 MPG, while being on some very deeply talented teams and has more or less never been a main go-to guy.

Are we talking about their actual talent level or achievements? Cause people seem to be confusing the two..

Surprised with the Pistol Pete stuff, however. Pete Maravich is without a doubt the most overrated player in league history. His passing was like Jay Williams - flashy as hell, but not actually that good, he didn't make his teammates better, and he was inefficient. He's basically a bad Iverson - and Iverson's overrated to begin with.

It's hard to judge him compared to a lot of SG's because he never came close to playing superstar/franchise player level minutes. (34+ for multiple seasons....) and missed a lot of games.

He was at a very high level when he did play though (All NBA production per-minute several seasons...)

There's a guy on our sideline who may have something to say about that.

Not that good yet averaged 7 assists during his prime, and averaged 31 a game one year with %45 shooting, percentages similar to someone like Ray Allen. Are you kidding me?

    This.

Manu was good because he played with reckless abandon every minute he was in the game. But because of this style, his minutes had to be limited. He couldn't sustain that kind of style for extended minutes. Popovich knew this which is why he had to carefully monitor his minutes.

Spurs could afford to limit his minutes because they could also run the offense through Duncan and Parker. Put Manu as the one and only option on his team like some of the other SGs were asked to be, and you would see the wheels starting to come off....unless he changed his style of play, but then his efficiency would take a hit.

To folks that said that he was never #1 man or the best player on his team.... Its not that clear cut. He was the main creator for the Spurs on numerous occasions especially during the fourth quarters. Spurs beat the Pistons in the finals not because of Duncan (who was struggling in the paint), but because of Manu. He ran the team offense.

But again, it's hard to rank him though because of the minutes thing and also because even when he ran the offense, he didnt do it all the time. Parker or Duncan have been #1 on offense plenty of times as well.

I find it extremely odd, ironic and contradictory that no one in this thread has mentioned Drazen Petrovic, considering how much attention he gets in any thread about Euroleague players who moved to the NBA.

    Simple question:

    1. Is Ginobody better than Petrovic?
    2. If you say yes, then, second question, who had the best NBA year?

In fairness, Petro's NBA career is an incomplete. You can guess what it may have been, and I'd guess it would have been great, but we don't know for sure since it started late and then was cut so short, after just 2 years as a starter. Would he have maintained that 20-21 ppg / over 50% for 7-8 years?

I'm assuming those 'top 5' votes are due to trolling, Spurs fans, or accidental clicks.

Top 20 for sure. At his peak, he impacted the game at a truly superstar level. Hell, if I needed to win a playoff series, I might take prime Manu over prime Ray Allen or prime Reggie Miller. However, his body broke down constantly and he rarely played minutes like other stars did and has to be penalized for that. On the other hand, you can give him some props for his amazing international play which demonstrated his ability to make players around him better.

Easily better than people like Pistol Pete.
