I'd be happy to do University of Chicago again if I could do it without paying. But HeyP might have the right idea here to go abroad. Doing college work in French might be a challenge though.

As for these elite schools, a lot of the heavy hitters are giving free rides or generous discounts to students who demonstrate financial need. It's not a huge hypothetical dreamcast.

Is room and board also covered?

I think I'd go to Hawaii. And I'd only enroll in about 6 hours a semester, max. Just ride it out as long as possible.

Harvard social life is an abomination. From the people I know there, they say that if they want to go out, they go to MIT. That is really stooping low lol.

My top choice for med school would have been the Columbia medical school of physicians and surgeons.

That being said, our Texas med schools have some of the best tuition rates in the country so if grad- isn't free I might have ended up down here anyways.

Yup, I lived in Boston for over 4 years...that Cambridge side with MIT and Harvard is a total bust as far as nightlife, good looking girls, etc...And the weather blows too.

The idea of being a Harvard grad is nice, but being a Stanford grad is just as impressive, except that the whole social life aspect of Stanford is on a completely different level.

    Depends.

If I want to have 4 years of fun? Arizona State...Hell, I could do another 4 years at Bama

But for a school standpoint probably Stanford.

Yea, I have a lot of personal experience with the Columbia Medical School. Difficult as no other, but the doctors there know their stuff, without a doubt. Area around the med school a little sketchy, but still in Manhattan (huge plus).

Yea, I have heard nothing but positives about Stanford. Great school, good athletic teams, nice girls, nice weather. And you are spot on about the Cambridge night life: it sucks in general. Me personally, I would be torn trying to choose between Columbia (my school) and Stanford. Great things going on at both.

I know people that go to MIT, some other college basketball players and whatnot; their fraternity is located right next to BU (on the other side of the river). Now, that is a home-run. However, the rest of MIT/Harvard students are out of luck.

    May I ask why?

U of I is DESERTED in the summer. Great fitness center though and a really good social scene. Cafeterias there are much better than anywhere else I have stayed (quite a few places as well). There literally is corn everywhere though.

Dang. Beat me to it. I was scanning the thread hoping I would be the first to mention Pepperdine and then post that exact picture. I also like the view that their baseball field provides. If you are sitting in the bleachers at their baseball stadium and look out beyond the left field fence, all you see is the ocean. I'm already a huge college baseball fan, but if I had gone there, I think watching baseball games there is all I would have done during my spring semesters.

    See for yourself

The reverse angle is almost as good.

I got quite a bit of mail from Pepperdine during high school and fell in love with the scenery. I was actually all set to just take on a crap ton of student loan debt to make it a reality before my parents talked a little more sense into me.

Aside from getting a good education, I love big cities, mainly urban cities. New York is my favorite city so it would be nice to attend school there. NYU is another school I'd also consider.

Most the people I know from Columbia do not spend that much time "in the city" (too much hw), so to say, and Columbia has a great set-up (imo) that isolates the city from the campus. However, the city is right there, so it is a matter of personal preference on if you want to spend more time in the city or not. I know many people who have been to passion pit concert, gov ball, david letterman shows, etc. MSG is an awesome environment.

Everybody wants to visit you if you are in the middle of NYC though, at least in my experience hahaha.

It is an arbitrary response to a hypothetical question.

May I ask why are you jumping in to only question the Columbia respondents?
