Scheme and fit matter too. Playing an oversized PG as an undersized SF matters too. Off court issues are real, they should factor into the evaluation, no one said those issues should be ignored. But we should be able to discuss this from all perspectives without being hostile.
The thread question was, "where would be go now?" Meaning having gone through those growing pains. It's not good enough to you see see him as a model citizen while with the Rockets taking mentorship advice from Wall, Eric Gordon, Augustin, Cousins, Tucker, Silas, John Lucas, others. I'm not too sure GM's see it as you. GM's look for one thing first and foremost, "can this player help me win now!?!" Even if they were herding goats in the jungles of the Congo at 26 y/o or 24 shoveling snow in Siberia. Players peak at 27 years of age according to Cowherd today, what does it matter if you start the clock at 19 over age 21, as long as you have the guy during his peak? The first round contracts go 5 years.......Porter would be right there for extension as he reaches his peak. Explain to me in your opinion as to, "must get rookies before age 21 and obtaining free agents before age 30? You act like the NBA is capped at 23 years of age. Porter as on his way out of the league due to failing production and hitting that cap of age 23 limit. If that was the case then yes, refrain from drafting the 21 y/o guy. These guys could play for a 17 year career. Porter could bring you many championships in 17 years from this point on. Play to age 38. Cowboys won a championship with psychologists of staff to help out players like Michael Irving and others. Again tell me why I should give up on guys so early? Dennis Rodman was sacking groceries for a couple years before playing junior college ball. Went on to contribute to multiple championships. You would have had us have no Dennis Rodman. Again, I'm not saying Rodman would go number 1, it's where would he go after his first year or 2 in the league (as the thread title suggests)? You keep trying to relive the mistakes the kid made in the past, the kid himself probably doesn't even remember or looks back and says, "how immature was I?" Key word, "Was"......past tense.
And was a small ass dude. KPJ has eliteeeeee size as a PG and seems to have a smoother tempo to his game.
I don't think we know enough about this team to say that. Most of the roster is young. It's a big ask for emerging players to also become mentors at this stage.
maybe not mentors but at least positive influences. but we have guys like john lucas in the organization to also serve as mentors
