What about Golden State if Nellie leaves? Think he could handle all those knuckleheads out there? In all honesty I could see him in Chicago or Cleveland. I don't think he wants to go back to the Knicks (and I don't blame him) I don't think he's really built for coaching college teams. His game strategy might be ideal but not his personality.
I don't think he will coach any team that he doesn't feel is 'championship' material. And it looks like Mark Jackson might be the guy for the Knicks. He quit the "YES" network job earlier today and it seems like he has something else lined up. I am guessing he's the only guy stupid enough to take the Knicks coaching job. It will give him the 'coaching resume' he's been seeking and some money to boot, so that job is a prefect fit for someone like Jackson who's desperate for any coaching job in the NBA. JVG isn't...
Chicago. I don't see him picking Denver, since George Karl is under contract and both of them are major "coaches look out for coaches" type (he wouldn't want to "steal" Karl's job); Sprewell aside, JVG is a big "no knuckleheads" guy and Denver's roster is loaded with them (Anthony, Martin). Van Gundy wants no part of building teams from scratch - he wants vets and a ready made squad. The East is uncompetitive, making it easy for him to get a team to contend, Chicago is a major market which does matter, and if the Bulls promise to make a couple of big moves this summer he could take them and run. It would be very easy for the Bulls to trade the #9 pick and a few players for a strong vet (McGrady? Jermaine O'Neal?), giving them a playoff-ready roster. Their experience with Skiles already gives them the foundation for a Van Gundy defense-first mentality. Evan
chicago, miami, cleveland, dallas, or new jersey. in that order. no way the knicks or bucks. and the kings are happy with reggie.
heh, Van Gundy with an experienced Veteran Club? No way. I see Van Gundy if any NBA team hires him to be with a club like the T-Wolves or the Bucks.
Chicago makes the most sense to me. Perhaps he'll have reservations about that, since he didn't like how Scott Skiles was fired.
JVG should never coach again. He's the best color analyst around now, and a few more years he could be the best ever. Plus, he doesn't want to revert to the coaching JVG with the raspy voice and more rings under his eyes than trees have in their trunks. That JVG is gonna die ten years earlier.
What matt said makes sense if you consider that 1) he doesnt need money (already done pretty well for himself, adn you know he dont go out buying flashy expensive stuff) 2) Said he and his family have fallen in love with Houston Its been said by alot of reputable people here that JVG does not like the management in NY and the team is LOADED with idiots that would drive him barking mad in hours if not minutes. If he stays in the NBA, I could see him with the Bulls (players that have shown defensive abilities when they want to).
Yeah, he should be like John Madden. Take notes from the guy and build your career in that direction.
it all rides on the bulls. that's the job every coach wants. i think they get their man in carlisle. the bucks pick up sloppy seconds in skiles. the knicks get stuck with jackson since no one besides a first time coach would take that job. gundy either sits out waiting for a winning team to want him (cavs, nuggets), or takes the heat job with wade, marion, and a top pick to build around. i bet gundy can get those 3 guys to the playoffs in the east.

"I see myself coaching one day, but not next year," Van Gundy, speaking before the Yao Ming roast on Thursday, said. "I'm very content with what I'm doing. It's the right thing for my family right now for many reasons. Down the road, I think without question. Next year, not at all."
