I'm From Alief and used to go to Fame City when I was a kid myself. The galleria had a really cool arcade at the time, much better than what they have now...i used to love going there but my parents would only give me like 4 quarters at a time to play. Here are some other places Fiesta HWY6 @ bellaire Stop n go - End of bellaire Dynasty Mall - Around bellaire and Beltway West Oaks Mall I'm in the mood to play some good old school street fighter II Champion Edition now.
Every now and then I read a thread on this board that reminds me what an interconnected group we are. We all have Rocket ties to bind us, but I probably ran across many of you personally at some of these spots back in the day.
Mostly the same. Except replace Almeda Mall with Willowbrook mall and Deerbrook Mall Wheels & Wings ruled. Funny you mentioned the place off Russell-Palmer road. I was thinking of that place too, but can't remember the name. It didn't last long I don't believe.
For me it was the Gold Mine in Westwood Mall. I also went to the arcade at Sharpstown Mall every so often. Couples of places I went infrequently were that Grand Prix place on Highway 59 at the Westpark curve. Also, I vaguely remember going to some arcade on Highway 6 near Beechnut or Bellaire. I wonder how many quarters I put into all those machines. Lots and lots and lots, I reckon.
Any of the several game rooms that opened and closed in Memorial city circa 1980-1984ish. Only one I remember by name was later, by sears, called Greens? Also wasn't there a "Le Fun?" there by Whataburger? Even before that, they had Pipe Organ Pizza, and played a new game there called PacMan. It was awesome. did the Sharpstown thing occasionally. Seriously though, anywhere they had games, if I was there I played them. Mostly 7/11 on Mason Rd. though before I had any wheels. I was a west side kiddo. Black Knight, Six Million Dollar Man, Asteroids, Defender, Joust, Zaxxon, and Dragon's Lair, ftw. Later, UT campus in Dobie Mall...PINBOT! yeah baby... and across the street at Einstein's arcade. Back then, Dianetics was downstairs. good times.
Off topic, but I always thought the arcade at Astroworld was a stupid idea, and was always amazed at how many people were in there. I mean, everything else is free in the park, and you can play those games in tons of other places. Why?
1) It rains in Houston. 2) AC during the summer 3) Sometimes video games are more fun than standing in long lines. Especially if you had a season pass and knew you were going to be back next week. 4) Video games are addictive.
