OK, BBS friends, let me know your thoughts....I have a ladyfriend coming to Houston to visit next weekend. She's never been here....never even been to Texas before. She's from the east coast.

Where would you suggest taking her?
When we're not doing the horizontal mambo, that is...... ;)

Things I had in mind.....in no particular order....

    Galleria
Downtown via light rail for nighttime partying
    San Jacinto Monument
    Menil
    MFA-Museum District
    Daytrip to Brenham

I had thought about Mardi Gras in Galveston but neither of us are big crowd people....plus it costs an arm and a leg to fight the crowds!

I have lots of restaurants for dinner (mainly bistros and upscale places) but during the day I am definitely taking her out for gumbo/Cajun food and barbecue.

    Thoughts???? Am I missing anything?????

I dont know what it is about the Galleria, but anytime I have visitors come in town they want to go there. It`s a good place to kill a few hours in between knocking boots ;)

One of my favorite places to take people from out of town is NASA. Its crawfish season so take her to chow down on a pound or two

Both of those are at the top of the list, as is Ragin Cajun.

Take her to the Hermann Park area. Miller outdoor theater, Museum of Natural Science, the Zoo, and Hermann golf course are all together there, and it's pretty cool. It's a little New-Yorkish, though certainly not identical to Central Park. You might even be able to take the train there. It's fun, it's cheap, and it's good variety. There's an Imax theater at the museum, if you want to catch a flick.

Take her to that new Vietnamese grocery store on the beltway near your side of town.....get a vietamese sandwich while you're there, and some Dungeness crabs ($4.95/lb...live) to take home.

Take her to Brazos Bend state park and show her a gator in the wild.

Women like jewelry.....take her to the Cartier exhibit at the museum of fine arts.

Go to Galveston during Mardi Gras anyway to see the big parade. You can camp out on 25th and never have to worry about paying for entry. Catching beads with all the families is so much more fun than squeezing in with all of the drunk kids.

    So, you're suggesting a sex-change operation while she's here?

Didn't read that it was a woman friend you were bringing, Tex.

Hey, she might like the men strip clubs Houston offers. Who knows...

Goode Co. BBQ, not the best BBQ in town, but it's really good. It represents Houston well.

    Then to Treasures . . .

When I get out-of-town visitors (especially from foreign countries), I like to take them on a driving tour to see River Oaks, and then 5th Ward. Provides a taste of the reality of the town.
