The major problem with Harden's floater in the Jazz series was that he was having to switch hands during the gather to shoot it. That added an extra level of complexity to it. There was one piece of video where he was clearly fumbling with it on that transfer. It was one of the actually effective parts of the Butt Defense. Learning that awkward transfer on the fly may also have been leaving him more exposed than normal, but that I'm just speculating on. I'd also say that potentially another problem with James' floater is his level of commitment to it. It can also be turned into a lob, and I think James is still maybe thinking that as he goes to shoot. Conversely, a lot of his lobs are very close to just being shots, showing that he's not entirely committed to Clint either (which is understandable). I'm waiting for the moment when once of his floaty lobs leads to a rightly-called basket interference/offensive goaltending on Clint. James, just go for the shot. Your point about his exposure is one I hadn't considered, and I'll have to look for it in future games. That would be enough to get me off the floater train if he's in actual danger of injury doing it. I don't think we've seen enough well-executed floater attempts in this playoffs to determine that it's not a legit threat. I also wonder if next year James might be shooting them right-handed as well as part of his nonstop improving of his game.
You mean fluters? Their actually called Flutist and you can probably see them the next time the orchestra is in town
