We certainly overpaid.... not sure who were competing with Brooks on those years...

We cleared some of a crowded roster and signed some floor raisers who are meant supplement the growth of the blue chip prospects.

    C+ so far.

    I like this

Rockets really did increase their floor by 50-75%, but their ceiling hasn't changed. It still heavily relies on the same young core that it did prior to June 30th.

For the same reason that a bench role player can get paid for being on a championship team... other teams aren't flocking to pluck role players from a predominately bad team.

I'm not going to lie, I dont care about most of this stuff. Rockets got a PG, a coach, some vets, are better defensively and the young players are finally going to be able to play in a structured environment.

People talking about all this asset management and sh*t -- if 2 young players hit from the 7 we have now, I don't think all that asset management is going to matter. If nobody hits we got more problems then the stuff we were going to get from the children who left.

it's the price you pay for being ass for 3 years.

Late 1st round picks are like cars. They depreciate in value the second you drive it off the lot, or in the case of the picks the moment you actually make the selection. Tyty was the 29th pick in last year's draft and played horribly in his short opportunity. He had negative value.

I'm as frustrated with the Brooks signing as anyone else. It's an albatross contract that could get Stone fired, but being unable to get a positive return on late first rounders or even second rounders that showed little to no promise is a non-issue. It would be like GSW fans protesting if they traded away Patrick Baldwin Jr (28th pick in last year's draft) for luxury tax relief. "We totally could have done better! We should have gotten a future pick or something!" I have no problem trading away Garuba, Tyty, Jaygup, and KJM for cap space. I just have a problem with who we used it on.

Dillon’s contract is senescing. It’ll be $18.5 in 3 years, while cap will go up.

It’s a 20m contract. Not even close to albatross in today’s NBA. Also we don’t know how it is structured yet.

Iko says it's four years completely guaranteed, on a frontloaded schedule so he'll get paid less towards the end. No, we don't know the details yet but we know it's a significant portion of the cap on a very flawed player that might be hard to unload. When Ryan Anderson signed his contract his $20M took up 20% of the total cap, whereas Brooks' $20M will take up 15% of the cap. You don't need to have a max contract to be an albatross. Anderson very clearly was one.

Meh. The trading away KMJ et al didn't bother me. I just don't see Brooks being too valuable in 2-3 years. It is a win now move that likely won't be a good expiring deal in a season or 2. It isn't the worse albatross, but it likely isn't going to tradeable for value.

I think it’s safe to say that Dillon brooks contract is a great bargain. Decreasing salary when the salary cap will go up .
Freddy’s contract seemed high at first , but getting someone with his experience and leadership abilities along with good defense has alot of value in terms of Win shares. Id rather have Fred at 40 than harden at 40 .
His third year is a team option, which is my next question :: do you guys think we will pick up that option ? Maybe decline the option and extend him to 3 more years at like 30 ?

also what is our cap looking like in a few years? Will we be able to afford jalens and senguns max extensions without having to sacrifice a player due to the cap (like how okc lost harden to us because they didn’t wanna pay him)
