    2002 Allstar starter?
    2 time NBA scoring champion?

It is foolish for anyone to question that Yao has definitely brought more revenue for the Rockets. But people need to remember those revenue don't translate into money to overpay for players.

But Yao came into the league in 2002, 04/05 is the season where we got Tracy Mcgrady, who he also mentions in that interview.

Yao is the founding father of NBA basketball in China, but now Chinese kids play basketball relate themselves more to other stars. When I ask my cousins and friends if they want me to bring back a Yao Ming jersey they all want a Kobe or Lebron jersey instead.

People also put too much emphasis on Yao's popularity is because he's Chinese, less on the fact that Yao is very talented and have the will and determination to succeed.

I don't know whether to  or  or :D :D :D at this comment. The Spurs paying luxury tax for many years would be HUGE news here and hundreds of thousands of Spurs fans would instantly drop dead with "disbelief heart attacks" if they heard that had happened. Around here, Peter Holt has a reputation that can be best summed up by saying that he'll give up one of his family members before he'll pay ONE dollar of luxury tax money! A couple of his CAT employees have told me how well he watches his pennies.

The Spurs' ability to sustain long term excellence is even more amazing when you consider their insistence on staying financially frugal.

let me tell you some facts
we loved jordan before,we loved O'neal before
but basketball was so unlovable.few people watched NBA games.
    Football was more popular.
When Yao came into NBA,things changed.
millions of people watched NBA(maybe just Rox games)
    more people played basketball
many young guys recognized a lot of stars,et. LBJ,KB24,CP3,Wade,KG...
we began discussing who is the best
    day by day
    billions of people love NBA
    basketball is played everywhere
we talk about players everyday,we love this game
    however
which team and which player is our favorite?
    look at some website:
    http://sports.sina.com.cn/nba/
    http://sports.sohu.com/nba/
    http://bbs.hoopchina.com/rockets
    .....so many

    we love Rox most
we love everyone in Rox,often love T-mac more than Yao
but wanna know why some people dislike Yao?
because the more we watch the NBA games,we know Yao is slow, big, not cool, sometimes useless(I don't think so)

who bring all these things to us?
there is on one but Yao.and cause of him ,NBA is more popular than soccer
at last,I post some pics we make about T-mac,we love him indeed!

exactly. Surprised no one has mentioned the fact that he gave us Scola to help avoid the tax.

    同志我看不懂你想说什么?

Dude I really don't understand what your trying say, Yea like I said Yao popularized NBA basketball in China, before he came to the league CCTV showed only a few games and a majority of the people who watched it only knows Jordan.

That been said the younger generation prefers the swingmen and slashers of the league simply because it is more exciting to watch.
There is a difference now in Chinese NBA fans, there are those who don't play the game but love to watch and they are supporters of Yao and Yao only, and then there is my generation of young people who plays basketball every chance they get, most of them likes seeing Yao succeed but when you ask them who their favorite player is they are going to say guys like Kobe, Lebron, etc because they are more exciting we can relate to them when we are playing basketball.

The first type of Chinese fan will stop watching the games once Yao stops playing, while the younger generation will continue because we love the game rather then one player. The NBA knows this and that is why it has started to market many other stars not only Yao.

And can we not mention soccer in China? It hurts just to think about how embarrassing the Chinese national team have been for the past few years.

I can't argue a lot, but I do know all international revenue is split equally between the 30 teams. it doesn't matter what team that guy plays for. Those commercials yao does go into the big pot like jersey sales, bobble heads or whatever. Also Les worth also was helped when he got the Toyota Center.

    No I was a Rockets fan pre-Yao.

China was at least watchable in 01 and 04, the past 4 years on the other hand........

How the F@#* do you lose to Iraq, their team didn't even have a freaking field safe enough to practice on.

The Rockets television deal in China is massive. It puts the Rockets on par with big European soccer clubs in overseas TV revenues. There isn't a major sports team in the US that can touch the Rockets in that revenue.

The funny thing is the Spurs paid the tax last year. Every site that lists team payrolls had them over the tax amount.

I gave up on that team ten years ago, thier behavior are insult to the great name of "football". And I watched their games since I was 10.
