He could always net you a Paul Pierce or someone like that. But yes, in reality, teams rarely get anything close to equal value when they trade away their superstars, that's just reality. T-Mac will be fine, sure he will likely struggle with this for the rest of his career, but the key here is to have a team of solid enough players to help him occasionally 'cruise' through the season and save his energy for the playoffs. This is what some suprestars with fragile bodies tend to do, but often their teams are good enough to make up for that; see Duncan and Shaq with their respective teams. Here's the bottom line: if Yao and McGrady are forced to go full-force for 82 games every single season -- regardless of how healthy they are -- we will never reach the promised land, because they will be both dead-tired when the playoffs come around. I think the key for this team has to be to have durable and good enough players around T-Mac and Yao to help them carry the load during the regular season, and I think JVG has already pointed in that direction when he was talking about how he needs 'healthy' and tough players around an injured McGrady to help this team win. We need Harpering or Brian Grant-types (BG in his prime, of course) to stabilize this team enough and give us that edge that we need. We need finishers, not just talented players, but finishers.
I think that is correct. We need better Role Players Also . . I think JVG needs to let the reigns go a little bit I think he needs to install a bit of confidence Seriously. . Who on this team beyond T-mac FEELS COMFORTABLE taking that last shot? Everyone on the floor needs to know that . . . . If they have the ball in the wanning seconds not only do they need to shoot the rock but they need to shoot it with CONFIDENCE! [and know that a tail chewing out is not waiting on the sidelines] Rocket River Rocket River
I sometimes cringe at T-Mac's shot selection only to be pleasantly surprised to see that they'll fall in 3 or 4 times in a row. I do think he could stand to find better shot selection, but I don't want it to become a head game with him. I can live with him jacking up 25 foot fadeaway jumpers when they go in, and even on an off night as long as it doesn't become a head game with him. I'd rather have a confident McGrady who does have the ability to make those kinds of jumpers than one who is timid and scared to shoot. If he can improve his shot selection without it becoming a head game, that's all the more better. I also give him the benefit of the doubt since the Rockets do run the occasional broken play and they just give him the ball and expect him to pull a rabbit out of a hat with less than 8 seconds left. It doesn't help our whole offense can shut down entirely and he's forced into some cringe worthy shots. I also attribute his shot selection with his fear of injury to his back as well. However he could easily be a 50% FG shooter averaging 25-30 points a game if the Rox offense transition was a bit smoother, and he shot closer from 15-18 feet in more often.
Tmac just simply got too excited about his new baby in his house and he is just not getting enough rest.
