He looks like he puts effort forward but he gets boxed out pretty easily. He doesn't seem particularly quick either. I think for him to be effective he's going to have to bulk up and rely on strength/power versus explosiveness and quickness. He's got some moves but they look a bit slow.
I guess you could argue Hill is a bust considering a team like the Knicks were willing to trade him. I hope he pans out though. He already possesses a solid jumper, now he just needs better coordination.
Lou, Maybe he looks slow because he is hesitating? Because when he runs or moves side to side he is very quick. I think he just needs some work.... DD
granted he hasn't played that much but i have not been impressed with jordan. he looked slow and hesitant last night but the fact that the game was already over might have factored into this. lets hope sikma and whoever put him to work this summer.
He looked much better than last game. He can rebound, and had a nice jump form when he took a shoot. I saw some nice things in him.
Jordan was athletic. Hill was athletic. Jordan Hill is pretty athletic too. I can see the potentials in this kid I hope he fulfills himself one day.
He was lethargic and hesitant last game. Hope that he shows passion that he gets to play during our next blowout.
Ok, compare Mcgrady and Kobe. Same thing, one has the mental edge, the other doesn't. It's not whether he knows what he is doing. It is basketball, if you can play, you can play. He needs to play with more of an edge, ecspecially if he is sitting at the end of the bench. He is very athletic, theres no reason he shouldn't be able to crack this rotation.
The guy just got here and is rookie. This is not rudy-t iso ball system. We play one of the hardest systems to learn even for high iq players.Give the guy some time.
Looks very raw to me. Shown some chemistry with Chase. Hopefully will get better as the season progress. Really irks me to see Anderson playing so many minutes each game.
Do you mean he does not put in the extra work? Because I read articles that when he was in NY he was there early and late working on his game. Give him a summer with CD and let him meet Dream and see what happens. DD
From what i've heard he wasn't very focused on his basketball career in NY (apparently a lot of partying), and that he wasn't a workhorse like Landry, Yao or most of the players on our team. But then again, NY isn't the best place for a rookie. The city offers a lot of things to do and the team sucks, so your not really inspired to work when you don't get any minutes on a team that is so bad and doesn't motivate you.. I think that Houston won't offer as much distractions, and with the good work ethic of most of our guys (I mean most of the players on this team are guys who, at some point in there career, where told they couldn't make it) I think he can turn it around and focus on his career.
Andersen is weak without hops and very little post game. Andersen is better than Hill. I'll go out on a limb here, Hill will never be as good as Andersen. Let me explain it this way. Some players stats don't tell the whole story. Battier has lousy stats, Arriza sometimes has lousy stats, Jarred Jeffries has lousy stats. Battier has intangibles that don't show in stats. To a lesser degree Jeffries and Arriza also have intangibles. Hill appears to have no intangibles. He has some speed and hops but they don't translate on the court. Same goes for his length it doesn't translate into blocks and rebounds. I got flamed for saying Dorsey is better than Hill. They said Dorsey hasn't shown nothing. And hill is just starting but I say Dorsey showed more in his first short stint of Summer league that hill has shown so far. Some will say well look at last night he got 6 boards. If you could watch the game again you would see those boards went right to him. In traffic if the ball goes right to him he will get the ball. That is the advantage of being taller with some length. In college he could get away with that most nights. In the pros that just isn't enough. He has no strength, doesn't know how to box out and seems to not like to mix it up. His shot is shaky, doesn't move lateral very well and he doesn't appear to know how to play d and most apparent to me is he doesn't have an instinct or passion to play the game. Before you start to bash me as if I am a troll. Understand I want this kid to be great. Oh how I wish he could just be the second coming of Michael Cage or Buck Williams. I don't see that at all in him. Of course I haven't seen alot of film on this guy so there is room for error. But everything I have seen validates my gut feeling on this kid. Can he improve? Of course he can everyone can improve. You just have to have the desire and want to workout to improve. Does he have that? My instinct says no but I will say it appeared he was working harder last night. That is the most I've seen him hustle in any film or game before. So maybe there is still hope. for all his lack of intangibles he does have some natural talent and length that can't be taught. Still just because you have god given skills doesn't mean you have the passion to play the game. I still believe McGrady was one of the most talented players to ever play the game. And yes at times he worked out hard to get himself physically better but overall he never had the desire of the great ones to improve. You hear stories of how much time Kobe puts in the gym and Jordan. That's what it takes to be the best when you are already good and for someone like hill that's what it takes to be good when you are barely average. let's hope he has that.
i still think the kid needs to be in the d league. adelman doesn't seem to want to take any of andersen's minutes away. i agree with you dd...he just needs minutes.
It just means you clearly have some skills that are good enough for the NBA or will be but overall you're not ready to play in the NBA. You are deficient in some areas that hurt the team too much when you are on he floor. Joey Dorsey was a project evn though from the very onset he could rebound and block shots. He didn't know how to play defense was too foul prone and couldn't score at an NBA level. That makes him a project. He has improved in all of those areas but arguably still not enough. Still you keep him in the NBA because he is such a good rebounder and shotblocker. At some a project becomes a dud if he doesn't get it.
