Exactly right. Another poster observed that Rick Adelman only played Kevin Martin 10 minutes a game as a rookie. Jordan Hill is not only a rookie, but has just arrived in Houston as part of a trade during his rookie year. The Rocket's team, discombobulated though it is from injuries and the loss of Carl Landry, has a well established system that Hill is going to need to be able to fit into. Based on what I have read about him, he has tremendous talent, but is raw, and does not distinguish himself by his intelligence. Here is a video mix that shows highlights of Jordan Hill at Arizona last year, where he lead the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 18 points and 11 rebounds for the year. As a warning, this is one of those videos with annoying music dubbed over the top. Jordan Hill should be sent to the D-League. He needs to bulk up some before he is going to be able to be a truly effective NBA power forward. And he is apparently going to need some time and attention to help him polish his game a bit and to learn the Rockets system while getting some substantial playing time. Those objectives can best be achieved with a rookie like Jordan hill in the D-League. In fact, if that is not what the D-League is for, someone needs to explain to me what the purpose of the D-League is. Jordan Hill is not going to see substantial playing time for the Rockets this season. I expect to see the Rockets send him down in the next week or so, and then we will see what he really all about next season in training camp and the preseason. Based on what I can see from film that I have watched, and articles I have read, Jordan Hill may very well be the Rocket's long-term answer to effectively fill the void left by Carl Landry. Not Hilton Armstrong, and definitely not Jared Jeffries, but Jordan Hill. The Rockets need to take care of Jordan Hill and bring him along right, with a view towards the long term. And for now, that means sending him down to the D-League.
I am actually impressed by JH's game tonight. He moves very well and does have the tools to become a great rebounder, and he hit a mid range jumper with ease He is a very good project to develop. Given time, he will definitely be more useful than Jeffries.
Its interesting to compare players like Hill and Landry. Hill has all the tools in the world to be a great power forward in this league(reason why he was drafted so high). Landry has nothing on Hill except determination. Amazing how far you can get with a little effort. Some players have the go get it, and some dont. Look how unathletic Scola is out there, but he just gets it done. Sometimes players have it, sometimes they dont. Hill needs to toughen up.
People forget that he's a rookie that just got traded.it's not like he's been here since training camp.
That's not exactly true. I don't know when Landry started playing basketball, but I'd assume it was when he was a kid like most pros. Jordan Hill, on the other hand, started playing basketball when he was a senior in high school. So he's been playing basketball maybe 4 years now and he's on the highest level in the world? He still has lots of developing to do. And if he does it, we'll have no doubt about how determined he is.
I can't believe some of you guys were totally surprised by Hill's athleticism.......did you guys follow March Madness at all last year atleast? Hill still seems a bit lost but I have faith that he will surprise people here with his touch around the basket and his athleticism (which it shouldn't by now)
Yeah, he needs at least another ten pounds of muscle, IMO. Stay in Houston during the off-season and get himself Landry'd up. I think the potential is there. He's just going to have to want it enough. I actually like what I've seen in the little time he's been on the court.
Hill will be great just have some little patience people i mean he gets drafted by newyork a loosing team sits on the bench nightly so yes maybe his a little bit overwellmed at the moment but im sure this summer working with hakeem and yao and the whole staff he will get it together i promisse
Why does he have to toughen up.So he be foul prone like Dorsey. He looks like he's not sure of were and what he should be doing on court.Have you ever been new to a job.If someone didn't know you were new.it would look like your being lazy but if you don't know what your doing how are going to bust ass.
I know it`s way too early to say what he will be in future but from what I have seen he could fit really well. He would give the Rox a 4 that could run with KL, AB, Ariza, Martin and would also be a good fit next to Yao as an athletic and active rebounder who can also knock down the midrange jumper.
I think he has Landry Potential. I know a lot will disagree (since some here really overrated Landry...) but Landry was a 16 and 5 guy, i think Hill has that POTENTIAL.
Except that Hill is a much better defensive player than Landry. Hill really could be the Rockets answer to fill Landry's shoes over the long haul.
Landry was scoring 16 off of only 10 attempts per game. Double the attempts and it comes out to 32 off of 20 attempts. For comparison, LeBron James is averaging 30 points off of 20 attempts. That's right, Landry is more efficient than Bron-Bron. I will be shocked if Hill is ever that good on the offensive end, but he could still be a good offensive player who is more well-rounded than Landry was (rebounding, defense, etc).
You can´t compare Lebron and Landry fg% wise, they score totally different. Lebron carries the whole team and shoots from everywhere, while Landry is a post player.
Obviously I was just making a point that he is one of the most efficient PF in the league... maybe the single most efficient. Expecting Hill to reach that level is unrealistic.
