How about those pathetic P&R defense. I'd never seen so many wide open uncontested jumpers from the opp's team during the JVG's era. We lost a bunch of games because we couldn't stop the half-court set offense. But one of your point is 100% true: "those quick long jumpers absolutely kill us." This comes another story, sluggish transition defense. Our PG or SG was shooting happy and nobody rotated for their position. You blame the player, but I blame the coach.
If the defense that got us to the playoffs is gone, then so to are our chances to get to the playoffs let alone succeed in the playoffs.
Yes this debacle of a philosophy hurts. It hurts bad. Oh sweet we get offensive rebounds now. Great. Ya thats wonderful. We shoot worse, we look lost on offense, but its okay. We attack the offensive glass. Awesome. Thank you RA. One things for sure. You got the softest team ever to the WCF against the Lakers. Now you have the softest superstars of all time. Ziggy-Puts gun to head
I'll say it again: Adelman was fired from the Kings specifically because the Maloofs wanted good defense. I'm not totally surprised by the shortcomings. What I can't believe is how pedestrian our offense looks.
11/21 vs Dal: 44.3% (43.5% 3pt) This game is ok but if you looked at our 4th quarter.... 11/23 @ Miami: 55.4% (37.5% 3pt) Who say we had good D??
Everyone said we would be great b/c we will continue to play good D and improve our offense. What I am saying is that this is so not true!! We are beginning to lose our solid defense already, even with the same starting lineup.
No leadership, not a single player to stand up and take charge. The team is being weined off of JVG's leadership to find out who will be the floor general. So far, I don't see anyone stepping up. DD
The defensive rotations have been absolutely horrendous. Last night was a prime example....the high pick and role between Wade and Shaq (Shaq's size helped) meant open jumpers for Wade and made them. We also let them have rather too many fast breaks/free layups. Yao got his fair share of touches of the ball, but the Heat's defense, especially Wade on McGrady was pretty good, he never managed to get to the rim without a pick.
Our defense is calling the game right now on ESPN... Be careful what you wish for in life, you might get more then you bargained for...
There you go again like a broken record playing the same sound indefinitely. Blaming it on being "weaned off of JVG's leadership" is idiotic even for you DD, and that is hard to do. Your obsession with him is perverted. Try blaming it instead on a lack of leadership and direction from the CURRENT coaching staff, who have NOT improved the offense, seems completely intransigent on making any changes and gives the same warm-over explanation for why we are losing. It is very obvious the current rotation does not have a floor general and if Adelman can't see that, he's an idiot. It's long past time to see what SF or AB can do on the floor. The defensive issues are 100% coaching. The guys aren't putting out the effort because the coaches aren't motivating them to. If the players start to lose confidence in the staff, we are in very deep trouble.
The defense left with coach... ... Tom Thibodeau. Yes, I'm serious. The Celtics had Doc Brown, a bad defensive coach and two of their three superstars didn't know what defense was. Now they have the best paint defense in the league. Last year, the Rockets had the best paint defense in the league. Coincidence? There's a reason why when Adelman left the league, Jack Sikma stayed unemployed, and when Van Gundy was fired, Thibodeau was the most sought after assistant. Adelman should have kept Van Gundy's guys around instead of bringing in his own.
I was just going to say the same thing. We never needed JVG and Adelman on the same staff. RA could have hired TT and made him defensive coach, kept offense with his old staff. Opportunity missed. Good points.
You think maybe the Rockets defense would have improved a little if they'd have acquired Kevin Garnet? Right, it's all Tom T...forget KG.
Good point, but Boston's overall defense has been pretty good so far, at least in the couple of games I've seen. It isn't all because of KG or Thibodeau. Whether the team can continue the effort the entire season is a question mark.
Minnesota was a below average defensive team last year with KG. Perkins is certainly better than Blount and Rondo has the tools to be the next defensive stud at PG, but Paul Pierce and Ray Allen were always been one-dimensional before this year. In fact, statistically, Ray Allen has been the worst defensive player in the NBA for some time. Again, I'll say it: Houston had the best paint defense last year, Boston has it this year. The common denominator is an assistant coach with a great reputation around the league for coaching big men and coaching defense.
