ok wow they advanced pass the first round. Your still not saying what they achieved. If going pass the first round means you achieved something then wow.
If that's the case then the obvious answer is Wilt the Stilt. But then again he played in a different time then what guys are playing in now. Wilt and Shaq ( in his prime ) would be my guys.
Someone should do a photo shop thing with Yao. He hasn't seen the second round either. Basically this team hasn't seen the second round and years. This picture is getting old. McGrady is not the focus of the team this year. Guys should leave him out of this. If we lose in the 1st round again will he get the blame for it?? probably
Alright. So, what this thread is about is getting opinions on where Yao would fit in based on that criteria.
In between Hayes and Alonzo. Then again like I said in another post that I don't know if you listed them in order or not. But based on today time Yao is basically the best if not top 3 centers right now.
If we advance past the first round this year I would certainly call it an achievement. Winning a series in the playoffs is absolutely an achievement. And so far Yao has not done it in his career.
Wilt Chamberlain (LAL, PHI) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (MIL, LAL) Hakeem Olajuwon (HOU) Shaquille O'Neal (LAL, ORL, MIA) Moses Malone (PHI) Bill Russell (BOS) Tim Duncan (SAS) David Robinson (SAS) Elvin Hayes (WAS) Patrick Ewing (NYK) Bill Walton (POR) Dwight Howard (ORL) Robert Parish (BOS) Yao Ming (HOU) Alonzo Mourning (MIA) Dave Cowens (BOS) -- I'll leave him here, but I know very little of his game Dikembe Mutombo (ATL) Amare Stoudemire (PHO) Brad Daugherty (CLE) Jermaine O'Neal (IND) Willis Reed (NYK) Wes Unseld (WAS) Rik Smits (IND) Kevin Duckworth (POR) Where's Sabonis???
"I gave a rough ordering of the players below, but its more of a partial, tier-ordering than an exact one. You can specify whichever players you'd put ahead/behind Yao." I also made it clear that I was looking at players's peak years. If the point was to order players by accomplishments/longevity, than maybe its Parish before Walton. That's not the point.
Man its pretty hard, but one thing for sure is hes no where near the top. I would have to say hes near the bottom and can move up if he has any success over the next five years. But theres is one thing Yao does have that most center on that list doesn't and that is shooting touch for someone his size its crazy that he has a nice soft touch.
I liked Sabonis a lot ... he just didn't meet the qualifications I set. No all-star caliber years on elite teams.
Deke is also a superior defensive player to Yao. Until Yao wins the Defensive player of the year, then he's not in the same class of defensive center. Deke is still swatting people and he's like 70 years old.
that's because people here who aren't blind tmac fans respect Yao. Yao doesn't go to Stephen A Smith instead of his teammates and team if he had a problem. Yao cares about the Rockets. Tmac cares about himself. Plus, Yao doesn't make excuses. Tmac does, he threw people under the bus, claiming he didn't have a "tim duncan". yeah you find that thread and article again.
Based purely on offensive and defensive skill and abilities. I dont care how many or few rings or play-off series they won. Its a team game, and one man cant do it alone. Even Jordan needed Pippen and a deadeye 3 point shooter to get his rings. Hakeem Olajuwon (HOU) Wilt Chamberlain (LAL, PHI) Shaquille O'Neal (LAL, ORL, MIA) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (MIL, LAL) Bill Russell (BOS) Moses Malone (PHI) Tim Duncan (SAS) David Robinson (SAS) Patrick Ewing (NYK) Kevin McHale (BOS) Elvin Hayes (WAS) Yao Ming (HOU) Bill Walton (POR) Alonzo Mourning (MIA) Dwight Howard (ORL) Robert Parish (BOS) Dave Cowens (BOS) Amare Stoudemire (PHO) Dikembe Mutombo (ATL) Brad Daugherty (CLE) Jermaine O'Neal (IND) Willis Reed (NYK) Wes Unseld (WAS) Rik Smits (IND) Kevin Duckworth (POR)

Because at his peak, Walton was a much, much better player than Parish ever was. Walton was a freak before injuries made him a shell of his former self.
Based solely on your comment regarding yao how in the bloody hell can he be placed above Willis Reed??? One of the greatest game 7 moments in all of sports. Dude willed his team to victory from the bench!
