You also have to consider parsons averages 7 more minutes, its not fair to compare the numbers (other than fg% etc). Per 36, parsons beats him in everything but points (2 less) andlike you saif heyward has a higher 3p% and ft%. Id prefer parsons though
Harden: number 1 rank against all competition except tony allen. Lin :14th ranked agains +.500 competiton, #37 rank vs bottom feeders. Parsons: 7th ranked among small forwards. Asik: top 8 center, leading rebounder. conclusion: solidify the bench, as our starters are one the best line ups. groom our power forwards. they're just babies right now.
What is your obsession with below average starters who are just inefficient chuckers? First Brandon Jennings & now Rudy Gay. http://www.basketball-reference.com...sum=1&p1=gayru01&y1=2013&p2=parsoch01&y2=2013
This mindset disregards improvement He's down from how he was playing THIS season due to injury. His pre injury numbers blows Parsons out of the water. Parsons plays in an offensive system that increases offensive touches. Increases possession = more chances to score. Wes Welker caught more passes than Andre Johnson, doesn't make him a better receiver. He is substantially better.
Seriously, this combined with salary (I don't care if the OP didn't mention looks or salary), he is easily top 10.
according the their advanced statistics their usage is the exact same...please provide some type of evidence for your claims or dont post. If you cant give any statistical evidence. Give something other then......."uhhh hes better"

Usage is a stat that indicates the percentage of plays that go to or through a player. Players can have similar usage but stats not reflect talent based off nothing more than pace. Batums has a higher Rebounding rate, assist rate, better individual defender, and all this with a messed up wrist and bum shoulder. The fact that Parsons got lite up one on one vs healthy Batum doesn't help
what stats prove he is a better individual defender. I see nothing anywhere that backs that up. Their defensive win shares and defensive rating on advanced statistics are the same. offensively you have no case.
DRtg (advanced defensive rating) Parsons: 108 Batum: 108 DWS (defensive win shares) Parsons: 2.0 Batum: 2.0
you're right. They're very close to equal, but there's a good argument to be made for a slight edge to Parsons. He's better defender and shooter, but Gay has more production. Didn't realize how inefficient Gay was. However, Gay is NOT a "below average starter", though he IS, grossly over-paid.
Lol my friends always tell me they don't surf clutchfans cause of the delusional fans who seriously overrate some of our players...finally see it here. Delete this dumb thread
This is correct. As I mentioned earlier Batum has the capability of leading a team as a 2nd option when fully healthy and ideally you'd want him as a 3rd piece. Parsons will never be option 2 or even number 3. He's more of a glue guy/missing piece to the puzzle albeit a very important/valuable piece. I've followed Batum closely since his rookie season since I really wished we held onto him after we drafted him but we traded him for that bum Ray Lewis with a basketball who would brick jump hooks. From point blank range. In practice. With nobody guarding him. Yeah. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5RTi77n9XaI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Anyways, back to Batum .. I watch him often since I live in Portland. He hasn't been fully healthy the whole year but when he is he has star potential and this was supposed to be his breakout season. Numbers wise he improved in all categories but I think next year he will truly make a name for himself.
the only thing clear cut is that he is by FAR a better ISO defender then parsons. But at least you made your case. Still the combination of numbers from what you just posted and what I posted. Basically I dont see a huge difference. From what you posted I will say that it appears batum is the better more athletic "individual" defender. However, you have to think about the defensive system and help defense of the other teams. ISO PP ...reflects the situations in which the defender has been ISOd by the opponent if that is your main stat. That is inconclusive because it doesnt break it down by percentage of times beat by man or shot over...etc If batum has better help defenders and I would imagine that is the case then he would have better ISO PP...because that stat tracks how many points were scored on from those situations and does not take in consideration how often the player preformed proper defense and the help defender/rim protector failed or succeeded in playing proper defense.
