Nash counts on a system to have success, yet his playoff success wasn't quite up to the hardware he got.

At first, I want to say borderline top 10 in modern times(post 70s). But in actuality, there are only 3 players I would say is on a whole different level from Nash.

    Magic
    Stockton
    Oscar

Every other PG in modern history to me is not head and shoulders above Nash. His combination of passing and shooting skills IMO is unmatched. He is along with Stockton the "perfect PG".

PGs I put on the same level as Nash: Payton, Isiah, Kidd, Archibald. So IMO he's top 8 at the very least. And possibly top 5.

Some of the players mentioned here are just weird. KJ? Seriously? I know the guy killed the Rockets every year in the playoffs. But the guy had health issues galore. If he belongs in any top 10 discussion for his peak, then so should Yao for being the best center in the NBA for a while.

I don't get why people keep talking about players n systems, you can have a ****ty player surround by great team, and a great system and he will still suck.

Pg-is the person running the offense right? , when did the pg have to be a defensive stopper?

Haha I see what you did there?

How many points did they give up in those years? Defensive ranking?

How many NBA Finals did he go to ?

Ask Jason Terry and Tony Parker which point guard they love seeing in the playoffs??

Did YOU see what I did there?

You can switch the players , but what difference would it make? Isiah was apart of the Detroit "Bad Boy" Pistons. Nash does not fit in with that group , because he has not played defense since he came into the league.

I remember when they added fired D'Antoni and hired Terry Porter. Nash had a sissy fit and complained to management about Porter telling the team to slow the ball down and PLAY DEFENSE!!

Don Nelson had like 4 players from the NBDL this season and when they got PT they produced. Don Nelson took our turd Kelenna Azubuike... polished him up and released him into his system and made us want to eat ****. Un-drafted players like Anthony Morrow make a name for themselves with Nelly's system.

Yes, Pg is the person running the offense... But sometimes a person who runs the offense can also play something called defense. This amazing thing called defense sometimes hinders the opposing player from running their offense. Some people who are familiar with the game of basketball even attribute victories to this thing called defense. Amazing concept huh?

Steve Nash is that you? How was it the NBA Finals? lol

In all seriousness, I believe Nash's MVPs can be attributed to the Brawl in Detroit. The NBA was at a pivotal crossroads with player-fan relations.

    Nash has 2 token MVPs.

    Magic Johnson
    John Stockton
    Isiah Thomas
    Oscar Robertson
    Gary Payton
    Bob Cousy
    Walt Frazier
    Jason Kidd
    Tiny Archibald
    Kevin Johnson

Look at these statistics (Seasons, Points, Rebounds, Assists, PER). Nash ranks fairly low comparatively:

    M. Johnson 13 19.5 7.2 11.2 24.1
    O. Robertson 14 25.7 7.5 9.5 23.2
    I. Thomas 13 19.2 3.6 9.3 18.1
    J. Stockton 19 13.1 2.7 10.5 21.8
    B. Cousy 14 18.4 5.2 7.5 19.8
    W. Frazier 13 18.9 5.9 6.1 19.1
    J. Kidd 13 14.5 6.7 9.2 18.9
    T. Archibald 13 18.8 2.3 7.4 18.0
    S. Nash 11 14.0 2.9 7.6 19.9
    G. Payton 17 16.3 3.9 6.7 18.9

No one who has ever watched Isiah Thomas play, particularly in crunch time and in the playoffs, could ever, ever put him at the same level as Nash. Plus, Payton and Kidd are much further ahead of Nash defensively than he is ahead of them offensively.

Some of the comments about the older generation PGs makes me wonder if they ever watched them live.

Watched Magic, Frazier, Thomas, KJ, Payton, Archibald, Kidd, and Stockton numerous times, as well as Nash. All were better than Nash, primarily because of their 2-way games.

Right, where was the system when Nash was in Mavericks. Or when a guy called Shaq was on the team?

Without playoff success, the inflated stats is nothing.

The comments made by others that underrate Isiah and Stockton are the ones that perplex me. Those guys were old school tough as nails PGs that had no problem mixing it up with anyone including big men.

KJ got his share of steals, but I don't remember him as a great defensive player.

Does anybody think AB would have won 2 MVPs if he was the PG for those Suns teams instead of Nash? (and I'll give you the AB circa this year)

In fact, outside of Paul and DW, I have a tough time thinking of PGs of today that you can sub in for Nash for those Suns MVP teams and say they could definitely win it also.

He may be in the right system tailored for him but he still has to go out and produce.

Greatest offensive player to ever play, and advanced statistics back that up...

Competitor on defense, but horribly slow...

Steve Nash is the best PG shooter of all time. One of the best scorers. One of the best playmakers. Offensively, I would pick him after Magic and Oscar Roberston.

It was bad luck more than anything which screwed him in making the NBA finals.

Steve Nash does not have the worst defense. That's complete BS that you've gotten from reading random reports rather than watching games. He isn't a talent defensive player but he works hard and is usually reasonably solid.

Is Robert Horry one of the greatest ever in your booo?

KJ was awesome and Nash is a spectacular playmaker. But if KJ and Nash went head to head in their prime, it will be just like Game 7 of 95 WC semi-finals. There is no way, Nash can check KJ.
