    I'd say he's a solid 6 or 7, maybe 5 on a good day.

If you're going to say that, you should probably list 10-14 shooting guards you think are better than him. And good luck.

Well the order changes from time to time due to injurys etc.

But.....in my opinion the following 2 guards are better than Kevin Martin

    (in no particular order)

    Byrant
    Wade
    Roy
    Manu (yes even now)
    J-Rich
    Joe Johnson
    Jason Terry
    Carter (even now)
    Hamilton
*Monta (close call) and/or Caron Butler *

    *******

Now I "realixe" that Martin may be better than some of the players on this list down the road, but as of right now if I was constructing a team to contend for a championship and I had to chose a starting 2 guard. All of these guys would come to mind before Martin. However Monta would be a very close call.

    Kobe
    Wade
    Roy
    Johnson
    Crawford
    Jackson
    Allen
    Terry
    Ginobili
    Carter
    McGrady :p
    Martin
    Hamilton
    Ben Gordon
    Richardson
    Heinrich
    Salmons
    Mayo
    Webster
    Brewer
    Garcia
    Eric Gordon
    Harden
    Lee

That was the list of what came to my mind.

Offensively, he has to be in the top 5 right now because of how ridiculously efficient he is. It's tougher to figure out when you factor in defense.

Also, Kobe is no longer better than Martin, and don't feed me any crap about how "clutch" he is. If you want to talk about the most overrated players in the game, you can start with the guy averaging 27 points on 22 shots. He's only a tiny bit more efficient than Monta Ellis for crying out loud.

At one point, he was great, but he's declined considerably since then.

Kobe, Wade, Roy and Johnson are all clearly better. You can make a case vs anyone after that.

True......Offensively Martin is one of the best the game has.

I know Martin is our shooting guard...but he has to be the worst perimeter defender I've seen in quite some time.

I may get flamed for this but in my opinion he makes McGrady look like Battier.

He's definitely a better scorer than Kobe. Hard to say about Wade, and he's obviously worse than LeBron in every category except (maybe) drawing fouls.

And Brandon Roy and Martin are actually very similar in efficiency by the way. Martin might have a slight edge when they're both fully healthy.

Erm, which McGrady? Prime McGrady or the one on the Knicks? If the latter, than I don't think you've been watching Knicks games.

Your right....I meant McGrady in his prime.

NY McGrady = Martin in terms of defense....they are both terrible.

No. Just no. Martin actually looks he cares somewhat on defense and gets steals. His defense is massively better than McGrady's, though admittedly I think I can play better defense than T-Mac at this point.

offense is only half the game, everybody's ranking is based on offense, if you factor defense, I would place players like Igoudala and Mayo ahead of Martin.

People rank players based on offense because objective measurements of defense are very difficult, if not impossible.

Iggy's a shooting forward so he's irrelevant, and I know nothing about Mayo. How is he better?

I agree with you on one point. I think Martin is actually trying on defense.

The problem is....I don't think he has the talent to be a very good NBA defender. Defense has a talent component as well as a effort component imho. McGrady had the talent but didn't always use it......Martin just plain doesn't have it.

All that being said.....I still think Martin is a good fit for this team. The man can score in bunches and we have two good perimeter defenders who can cover for his inability on that end of the court.
