HoopData lists these SGs as having the top "adjusted" PER: Dwyane Wade Kobe Bryant Brandon Roy Joe Johnson Manu Ginobili Core Maggette Jamal Crawford Monta Ellis Andre Iguodala Kevin Martin Vince Carter Stephen Jackson Jason Terry Jason Richardson J.R. Smith Delonte West Eric Gordon J.J. Redick Richard Hamilton Ray Allen O.J. Mayo Out of that list, I think I'd slot him top 10.
My top 10 SG 1. Kobe 2. Wade 3. Roy 4. Johnson 5. Iguodala 6. Martin 7. Carter 8. Ellis 9. Allen 10. Mayo --RB
I don't think there's a better PURE scorer in the NBA at this point, but there are a few people that are really close (Wade, Kobe, maybe Roy). But unfortunately, being the pure scorer Martin is, he loses attributes in a lot of other facets of the game, including defense, posting up, and passing.
I'd place him in the top 15. He's a legit scorer. I do worry about him when he has to create his own shot. His shooting form seems to limit his shot off the dribble a lot of times, unless he's shooting close or from the baseline. I'm definitely glad to have him on the Rockets though.
I'd put him 5 after Kobe, Wade, Roy and Johnson. But I can't decide if that's just me being a homer or if it's legit.
1. Kobe Bryant 2. Dwyane Wade 3. Brandon Roy 4. Joe Johnson 5. Paul Pierce 6. Andre Iguodala 7. Kevin Martin (This is being generous) 8. Vince Carter (Hard to place) 9. Ray Allen 10. Manu Ginobili (Top 5 when healthy) 11. Stephen Jackson 12. Jason Terry (Could be higher, but he is an ass, so he gets bumped) 13. Caron Butler 14. Monta Ellis (Not a fan) 15. OJ Mayo Michael Redd Jason Richardson John Salmons Corey Maggette Jamal Crawford
1) Kobe 2) Wade (signifcant drop in quality, after the first 2) 3) Roy 4) Johnson (signifcant drop in quality, after the first 2) 5) Martin 6) Iguodala The rest 7) Stephen Jackson 8) Carter 9) Ellis 10) Allen
How can you list both Paul Pierce and Ray Allen as shooting guards? They're both starters on the same team and Pierce has played small forward his entire career.
That's a good list, and you are being generous with Kevin! I think Iggy should be behind a lot of those guys, and if Jamal Crawford was a starter for the Hawks, he would be higher up. Jason Richardson with the Warriors used to be a beast. I loved watching him and Cat go at it back in the "Isolation" days.
Tier 1a: 1. Bryant Tier 1b: 2. Dwyane Wade Tier 2: 3. Brandon Roy 4. Joe Johnson The Rest: 5. Manu Ginobili 6. Kevin Martin 7. Monta Ellis 8. Vince Carter 9. O.J. Mayo 10. Jamal Crawford (as much as I dislike him and hate hate hate to admit itt, he is having a better seaon than anybody else I can think of) I consider Iguodala and Pierce to be SFs
According to Chris Ballard's book, when he asked Shane Battier who the toughest guy to guard are in Battier's opinion, Battier's top 5 are Kobe, Lebron, Wade, B.Roy, and Manu (in no particular order) with honorable mentions going to Paul Pierce and Kevin Martin (who is the best a drawing fouls). So, at least offensively, Martin is up there.
Kevin Martin is probably one of the best SGs out there, the thing that drops his rank is that he only plays 50-60 games a season.
Group 1 Kobe Wade Group 2 Roy JJ Group 3 Martin Allen Manu Ellis Jackson Mayo Carter Richardson Group 1 and 2 are in order. Group 3 is interchangeable, though Allen is starting to slip due to age, and Manu due to age/injuries.
