Just want to clarify, I said Camby was overrated on D, not that he kinda sucks. Continue on.... 100% correct. Good lord, we were out-hustled by Eddy Curry. EDDY MF'ING CURRY! BTW, 100% correct. I would 100% agree with this because the players deserve to be trashed, but some of it is coaching. The Nugs have put up a new scheme which is designed to increase our interior D while giving up more outside shots. Some of the problems are being unfamiliar with the scheme. I don't want JVG. The NBA needs him as a color commentator. He should be banned from coaching. I love Jones and have been pimping him for weeks on this board. Your'e assuming we have an offense. I have yet to see one. Not ready to throw Melo under the bus on this one yet. I see your point, but disagree a little. I'd like to see us at least consistently TRY to run. We're not doing that yet. Go Suns speed for a full month. If it doesn't work, try something else. We've never actually committed to the running game. Wouldn't work in this situation. With a new coach, it might, but right now too many players feel they're "entitled" to minutes with Karl. I've actually been impressed with K-Mart this season. Since last April or so, he's shown a new maturity level and his play has been good. I actually don't have any real complaints about him right now. Right now being the key words. It'll be interesting to see how this team comes out Friday night at Washington.
Nugget4, I'm curious why you don't like JVG so much? I think he can bring much needed discipline to the Nuggets. btw, there does not seem to be much critique of Iverson here. I, too, like his spirit and effort, but it seems to me he's still his old self. Whenever he gets the ball during offense, it pretty much means other players won't be involved anymore.
Hate his style. I hate basketball that is 80-79. Plus, like I said, the NBA needs him as a commentator. Nene's out for 6 weeks. Thumb injury. The kicks to the groin keep coming.
Dude what the hell is up with Nene? Is he like the next Grant Hill except without the great potential? I say once he's back, they should find a trade for him. His contract is pretty huge for an injury prone player.
He's had some questionable injuries in the past, but this one's legit. Just bad flukey luck. The Curse of Big Jane continues. BTW, for those that are curious, I just found a really good Nugs blog out there. I was never a fan of the Nugg Doctor blog (hope he doesn't read here), but this one's pretty good. Born A Nugs Fan. Tends to be a little optimistic, but is much more level-headed than I am (I salute him for both of those...Lord knows it'd make my life easier), plus he does some serious number crunching which is nice.
You could say that just as easily about Carmelo. This is the issue when you don't have a real PG on the roster - your offense will simply consist of guys alternating 1-on-1 offense, with the occasional kick out or pass to a cutter. The Wizards have the same exact issue. The Nugs seem in disarray finding a real set backcourt rotation - that Von Wafer and Mike Wilks are even on the roster makes me wonder how we couldn't send JL3 over there for a #2. Of course, it's tough putting a true PG next to Iverson unless you find one that's 6-5 and plays strong defense. As I do like the stats: shot attempts per assist: Melo: 3.7 AI: 2.4 (for reference: Jason Kidd career 1.4; LeBron career 3.2, Marbury career 2.1, Arenas career 3.1) The failed US Olympic teams shared this problem - when all you have on the roster are guys that look for their shot, and no distributer, your team offense will be for crap. Evan
I'll take it though. We're nowhere near as bad as we were against Boston, and we're not as good as we were against Washington. I'm excited to see how we play Indiana tonight because I want to see how the team responds. Unfortunately, I have a gig tonight, so I'll be watching the game at 3 am when I get home. Encouraging thing about last night's game was the ball movement. We have to have that. JR Smith has actually been decent as our emergency PG. Now, before I get laughed at for my JR excitement, I want to point out that on a scale of 1-10, I'm only at a 3. I know he's just doing this so he can get my hopes up and then crush them.
IMO, Carmelo is somewhat overrated because he is a one-dimensional player (scorer) and doesn't bring anything else to the table. That being said... Why don't the Nuggets trade Carmelo (+ 1st round pick/fillers) for Kobe Bryant? I know Kobe has some baggage in Denver (everyone can be forgiven with time). But they are in "win now" mode because they have AI who isn't getting any younger. Kobe and AI would be an perfect 1-2 combo, plus Kobe can play great D. Carmelo still needs couple more years to reach his full potential but he would fit in just fine with the Lakers. This would be a perfect trade for both teams, and it would make Denver a force to be reckoned with. PG - AI SG - JR Smith/Bryant SF - Bryant/Najera PF - Nene/Martin C - Camby Why doesn't this happen?
The Pacers blew it. Indiana has good shooters and guard play and even when they play well like they did to start tonight, their inexperience and lack of leadership shows. The Nuggets hardly won this game and Indiana didn't even play horrible at points. The Nugs impress me less and less.
Aside from the Colorado issue, that's actually a really good idea. I mean, I have my questions about how Kobe and AI would exist, but certainly Los Angeles can't hope for a player better than Carmelo at this point. At least he's exciting and has a big name.
Because the Nugs franchise realizes that Melo is only 23. They realize that if he had anyone, ANYONE, who could hit a 3 point shot, he'd be averaging around 6-7 assists per game for his career. They realize that he's finally giving a damn on defense this year and trying his hardest. They realize that he has potential. Seriously, this discussion has come up with the "insider". The Nugs would do AI for Kobe. They would turn down Kobe for Melo. I promise you, they're deeply concerned that they don't have your approval.
But isn't that the problem? That they DON'T have anyone who can spread the floor, and hasn't had any for a while now? This isn't a new problem. We've been saying this for years. Do you have any reason to believe that it will be remedied before AI is no longer an all-star calibur player? Is the management willing and capable of adding the right players to the Melo/Camby/Iverson combo? If not, then I don't see the problem of a Melo-Kobe deal.
