The season is young. How much is left in Jeff's tank come playoff time is what concerns me if we do nothing about Landale. And Jeff isnt well suited to play vs certain centers in the league either, agreed.
The way this board acts, the Rockets have a backup big man problem* and even has a thread on the third string center. If Green's play over the past month is not noteworthy because he was known to be good, the concerns with Landale should never have mattered much less over a month since he was sent to the bench (i.e., Landale failing was noteworthy a month ago, but man he keeps getting kicked while he's down). If you want to say Green isn't noteworthy now, don't act like his backup is until his backup makes a credible run at getting his spot back. *The Rockets win when the starters win their matchups. Occasionally, the Rockets win because Tari is so awesome even if the starters lose their matchups. There have only been two games that the Rockets were winning the matchups with Sengun on the court, but lost the game due to what happened with him off the court (i.e., the problem is either Sengun (it isn't) or who's on the court with Sengun).
I don't think Landale is noteworthy. I didn't make this thread. I'm just answering the question. He's just a waste of a signing. If he was making like vet min then it would be justified. but a multi year deal being paid as a every night rotational player, yeah terrible Uncle Jeff being a good rotational player for years has nothing to do with that. If Landale was playing well, that still wouldn't change the fact that Uncle Jeff is pretty reliable for spot/rotational minutes
I dont either. Its his absence that is noteworthy, as in he is bad so doesnt play. I think we benefit from a 2nd C who is noteworthy.
My first post in this thread was ... Your response was ... Obviously, you think it is noteworthy to discuss Landale if you feel it is worth harping on his play as your original response to me suggests. I don't like kicking a player when they are down when the coach has put him on the bench. I don't like harping on the one contract that may end up bad for one season and is only a multiyear contract if his play is irrelevant to the value of the contract or he improves. Overall, it looks like Stone was 4 for 5 on his deals this offseason (not counting Boban and Ime) and you can't get over that one went slightly bad and will be remedied at either the trade deadline or in the offseason because of the foresight that it may go bad. Stone is going to make mistakes. Every GM makes mistakes. I obviously can't get over harping on one mistake when holisitcally, the pluses outweigh the minuses by a significant margin.
most backup centers aren't really noteworthy. there's maybe a couple teams that actually have reliable ones. Landale is one of the worst but most aren't much better
like i said I answered the question. If he was really noteworthy I'd make a thread about it which I didn't In fact i probably haven't even mentioned him up until this thread despite how bad he is. It's just literally understood how pathetic his play has been that there is no going around it
For me the clock now starts ticking on Landale. If he's not productive by the deadline, might be best for us to try to replace him with someone who can give us more productive minutes as backup 5. Our backup 5 could be instrumental in a playoff push. I would look closely at Isaiah Stewart who's apparently available. I wonder if his defense is good. Can shoot and block some shots.
