Its expensive, but you cant find a better place for produce and granola type stuff... authentic, organic... the produce lasts forever and tastes the best, so I dont mind the price.
Me too. Even though every time I go I b**** about their r****ded parking lot and wonder why the hell they make the aisles so freaking narrow. Seriously this is an issue at every HEB.
Man, I'm way too ****ing lazy to go to more than one store for my grocery shopping. I have to go today for like three items and I'm dreading it.
I get my candy goodies from Sams Club. I think aside from fresh food like vegetables and fruits, Sams is one of the best. It's just that every time I go there I tend to spend more than I really need to.. I'm a sucker for things in bulks, can't get enough of it.
Yaozer, Yaozer, Yaozer. You just gave yourself your own Red Quote. Of course its expensive. Its supposed to be when you get to rub elbows with Rockets like Hakeem and BBS royalty like Rockhead. I am surprised the mods let you become a member without you knowing your BBS history and the origin of the Rockhead Rule. You will probably get demoted, but you will get an opportunity to regain your stripes. ********* What, no love in this thread for Sellers Bros. on Stella Link?????
Archer Farms - the Super Target Grocery Arm, has some really great products. I like a lot of the house-brand items. We also shop at HEB Bellaire, Kroger Buffalo Speedway, and Sam's Club (south Loop or Bellaire) for meats and even some fruit and vegetables items - like a newman's salad container or haricot vert or a big asparagus or a bag of green apples. And of course the Sam's club roasted chicken is a great easy, cheap meal to pick up. Just tear the chicken off the bones and pair with some bag salad, avocado slices, sliced red peppers, and blue cheese, and make some vinagrette with Colavita or other extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and some fresh basil and garlic, or wasabi and ginger.
General: Kroger (River Oaks or Heights) and Costco (bulk) Good cheese, bread, etc: Central Market Once in a blue moon or for specific vegetarian fare: Whole Foods Asian: Hong Kong City Mall (Far but I generally hate the ones in Chinatown I)
Wal-Mart, (Yeah, I am not afraid to say it like A-Train), the Texas corner store, and the Mexican Meat Market. I'm in Katy. Yeap, the Wally Martinez on Fry and "Home Depot/Walmart" street. I can't imagine going to somewhere for this, somewhere else for that. That's why God gave us Wal-Marts... so we can shop in the middle of the night while we kick the stockers' cardboard boxes out of the way... I think the only time I go to the corner store is when I ran out of something and need it quick, and the only time I go to the Mexican Meat Market is when I bar-b-q something already marinated.
Primarily, Wal-Mart. If I happen to bring in a big check I'll go to Target to encourage free market competition. Since I try my best to avoid just about any social interaction, if I have to shop after hours I go to Kroger because they leave their self-scan lanes open all night unlike Wal-Mart.
Kroger (grant & louetta) for everyday stuff Fiesta (249 & 1960) for seafood Sams (290) for some frozen items we like Food Town (Huffmeister & Cypress N. Houston) If I'm broke (but I never buy meat there)
By the way, am I the only one who prefers the old school Krogers? The ones with the slanted glass roof in the front. KEEP IT REAL!!!
In Jefferson county - South of Beaumont. HEB in Beaumont on Dowlen for produce, meat, cereal Walmart Port Arthur for meds, paper towels, soap, dry goods-I will not buy or eat any meat product from Walmart Kroger for Boar's head deli products-on Dowlen in Beaumont Nicks Grocery (in the daylight hours) on 39th St. in Port Arthur for Boudain, Italian sausage, stuffed pork chops, twice stuffed baked potatoes, or green onion sausage
When did Randall's sell out to Safeway? I remember back in the early 90s when they refused to carry the Houston Press because it ran gay personals. My Brown 92 campaign friends and I protested there with Queer Nation once ("Eggs and milk, not hate and guilt!" "Sell your food, not attitude!"). And another friend spent hours there one night sticking fake UPC stickers that read "homophobia" in place of the numbers over the real UPC's on thousands of items. They had to close down for a whole day to go through their entire stock and remove them. Ah, good times... When I was in Houston, I'd hit Kroger or Fiesta (whichever was closest) for most stuff and go to Whole Foods for any vegan needs the others couldn't meet. But I'd never buy produce there. They rape you on that stuff. In Pittsburgh now for a bit. Giant Eagle for most things (the olive oil bread at the location on Centre is excellent and vegan); Trader Joe's, the co-op and Whole Foods for the rest - in that order. Houston could really use a Trader Joe's. It could use a co-op even more. As it is, Houstonian vegetarians and vegans are stuck with Whole Foods even as it becomes less and less veg-friendly. I can't imagine what it would take to get me to spend money at a Wal-Mart. Those people are evil as hell. I'd like to think those of you that shop there do it out of ignorance as to how their employees are treated rather than indifference.
I know where y'all punks live. I'm going to sit in front of the u-scan lines and not know the produce number code. And also, I am going to say, wait, didn't the sign say that lobster cost $.49 cents? I grow vegtables in my backyard. I have chickens and rabbits in the yard. And I have cows in the yard. I have cows for milk. When I want a steak, i shoot up Elsie with an uzi. When I want a twinkie or a ho ho, or a big gulp, i go to Valero.
I'm in southern California and recently cuz they're close its been: Albertsons Vons. Equivalent of Safeway. I seem to feel most "clean" and comfortable there. The last town I lived in it was: Stater Brothers! Favorite and I really don't know why. Ralphs I tried Whole Foods when I was on a health kick and didnt mind the overall theme. I went away not so much for the high pricing but just didnt need their specific offerings. Trader Joe's, great alternative and very fair pricing. I like its basic setup and will go back. Same thing though in not needing anything specific from them. And I've been to a myriad of smaller groceries and dollar stores just cuz they're close and I'm lazy. Back in the Houston area it was nothing but the: Randalls walking distance away and Kroger (with slanted glass roof) just a little bit further past that. And eeeeevery once in a while like twice a year I'd head to the Food Lion. Before I left H-town it was the late night 2 am trips to supercenter Wal-Mart; after working the late night shifts, or going in after hittin up the clubs to pick up some nick-nacks and let the alcohol buzz wear off before driving again (Aaah, the good ol days.. ) They don't have 24 hour Wal-Marts in California though
