The ability to count doesn't creating a rooting interest. I couldn't tell you one member of Team Japan's Olympic squad in any sport without looking it up. I don't think whatever diversity they mixed in mattered much, because it doesn't appear that they medaled in basketball. Does having X number of people on the team mean Japan isn't an ethnostate? Shockingly, I didn't participate in the women's 4x100 relay. I'm reasonably certain a website and 3 other men were also ineligible.
