This ahole needs to stop, they don't care you dress as a women bro they care that you are annoying and just looking for attention...
I am told by far leftist like @deb4rockets, @FranchiseBlade, @astros123 and @Sweet Lou 4 2 that this is perfectly normal and acceptable behavior and it should be celebrated.
I'm told by right wing bigots that this is something that actually affects me and I should be very worried about. What I have actually said is just to reference Neil Brennan on the matter. Paraphrasing: He isn't a bigot, he's just busy. He doesn't think about them that much. He thinks about transgender as much as he thinks about left-handed Filipino people. He hopes they're happy. He hopes they will get what they need. If he meets one that wants to shake with their left hand he'll do it. He doesn't say "Nope, I refuse recognize that hand" That's pretty much where I'm at.
I think that we all can agree that this is not a problem, until little Johnie/Debbie come home from school and they are missing their ribs.
I'm not "always on" about it... ...in fact, I the actual True Proportion of my posts on transgenderism is much lower than your Estimated Proportion. ...and you're a turd.
That graph is also total BS. Like almost everything that comes from @SamFisher (except the occasional post in the GARM he gets right).
It is a small number of people. I think eventually it will be somewhere between .8 and 2% of the population. It is still millions of people, but it isn't a minority numerically like homosexuals or blacks or Asians. On one hand, the fact that it is such a small majority makes the hysteria from the right really bizarre - on the other hand, there have been some trans activists that have called for some major cultural changes for what is a small number of people. The arguments seem to be on the margins with most people ultimately concluding that trans people should have the same basic rights as everyone else, and should enjoy the majority of opportunities as everyone else --- the battle is over women's sports, pronouns and other things. In the short term the conservatives have profited greatly off this topic, but long term I do believe that we will see wider acceptance of trans people --- we went through this with conservatives and gay rights and women's rights and even black American rights.
I truly believe that it's only a tiny percentage of our population that have the mental disorder of gender dysphoria. And I believed that before SamFisher posted his graph. Some in this discussion have questioned why the majority of our society is expected to alter their behavior in order to cater to a small percentage of our society. And contrary to what Sam says, I have barely expressed my opinions in this thread. in 105 pages, I've posted around 5 times and almost all of them have been focused objective discussion, not personal opinion.
I think that conservatives see it as a slippery slope, which is why I titled this thread "where do you draw the line?". I suspect that most people (even most conservatives) will be polite and cordial to a trans person in public. But where do you draw the line? Should a "trans woman" be awarded grant money that has been earmarked for women-owned businesses? Should "trans women" be permitted to share private spaces (such as locker rooms and bathrooms) with biological girls? Should our government pay the bill for puberty blocking drugs, binders, and "gender reassignment" surgeries? On this slippery slope, where do you draw the line?
Biological males should not be in prison with biological females. I can buy that gender is a social construct - but sex isn't a social construct. Biological males that identify as women can be put in monitored prisons. As far as referring to the prisoner as "she/her" in court, that doesn't bother me in official court proceedings.
Like many things - time will tell and I suspect it will fluctuate over time as well. I think that we need to start with an acknowledgment that people in general agree roughly 90% on this issue - and then tackle the rest. However, there are extreme elements on both sides that do not want to acknowledge that point because they have an absolutist position. Eventually society in the USA will decide whether trans people can or cannot share spaces with biological girls - same with grant money and participating in sports. The bathroom issue is largely starting to be decided on it's own - many restrooms are now gender neutral in more populated parts of the US and in larger areas with huge bathrooms they are offering extra bathrooms that are labeled as "family bathrooms" that can accommodate those that want extra privacy. I think that the sports issue is a loser for trans rights activists, at least for the next decade.... same with the federal government paying for blockers. That is a decade away if at all.
