I was impressed with the play of Usman Garuba against the Bucks. He wasn't let off the bench during the first two games, came in against an elite team and played a very effective 25 minutes, in my opinion. He hit 2-3 field goals, one a 3, had 8 boards (4 offensive), 2 assists and 4 steals, with 2 turnovers. Considering that the guy has been, for all practical purposes, declared "dead" by many here in the GARM, his play should have surprised some people.
This question should be asked at the end of the season, not the beginning of it. What we need to upgrade is fan patience.
We aren't scoring efficiently and our defense is bad. We need the whole team to upgrade their level of play, we need the young guys to keep getting better. In our extremely small sample size of 3 games to start the season, our 3PT shooting and rebounding are good. We are shooting poorly from everywhere inside the 3pt line, we aren't drawing or making enough FTs, the turnovers aren't terrible but we have one of the lowest assist averages. We are allowing both high volume and high percentage scoring from in the paint and the 3PT line. The Rockets need efficient inside scoring, more passing and assist, and better interior and perimeter defense. Good luck finding an upgrade to one position to fix all that.
I'll let you know in a year or two. #toosoon Now all we need are Magic, Kareem, Coop, and Nixon to do something similar.
Some guys are fantasizing about the future : Sterling "Scoot" Henderson is the new fantasy player everybody wants if we can't get Wembanyama. He's a teenager. Kevin "Scoot" Porter, Jr. is the current Rocket. He's not a teenager.
Imagine having a 5 that anchors the defense, rather than a slow undersized defensive liability.. look how Lopez shut the paint down last night. Soon soon!!
One thing I've seen from this team is we need more talent. Green -> future superstar Eason -> future superstar KpJ -> future semistar Bari -> TBD Sengun -> TBD Bruno -> starter We only have 6 guys who look like they belong on a championship team in the future, the rest look like scrubs or career role players. You can def see the dropoff when Green and KPJ sit on the bench thats why we need more talent on this team whether thats Wemby or Scoot.
Scoots got a money pullup middy though(and good ft shooter), so you can't just say he can't shoot. 3pt needs work, yes, but he will go to work in the mid range like cp3 while the 3 develops. The form is fine too, so it will come with tweaks and reps.
Scoot is 6'2, Ja Morant is 6'3 and is considered a big pg. Why is 6'3 big but 6'2 is too short? Scoot slso has 6'9 wingspan and can jump out of the gym so I think he is long enough for a pg. The only question he needs to answer is his shot it looked vastly improved in the exhibition game but I guess we need bigger sample size.
He did ok but we need better sample size than 1 good game. Bruno for example had 10 good games to close out the season last year and also had been playing at a high level before he got injured.
