The window isn't closed until Duncan retires. They could use a secondary scorer or play maker on the perimeter, Parker can't do it all himself. Offer Ginobili the vet minimum to finish his career in San Antonio. If they can get Dwight or other young talent, do it. Otherwise, keep doing what they're doing. Leonard is only going to get better.
I think Tim Duncan is an incredible talent but to say he's the best power forward of all time is so hard for me bc growing up watching karl malone put his foot in my rocket's ass every year was so hard to do. Duncan has always been surrounded by talent like david robinson, tony parker, manu along with an incredible bench Karl Malone did have stockton but he wasn't anyone defenses would key on. The rest of his devastating lineup included Jeff Hornacek Byron Russell Greg Ostertag Shandon Anderson Greg Foster Howard Eisley David Benoit Chris Morris basically malone had crap piled on crap around him, but he was a devastating scorer year after year, I think TD averaged over 25 once. Malone was all day on his 18 foot jumper and was one of the greatest scorers I've ever seen. I hated it, he was such a nemesis before duncan, and honestly I think if Malone ever had another great scorer around him while he was younger he could have been just like tim duncan bc the delta center was THE toughest place to play. He was just in a lebron type situation where no free agents wanted to go to Utah and moreover NBA stars weren't teaming to form orgies to win championships, guys were loyal then and tried to bring a title home vs seeking one out. I still put malone ahead of tim duncan if you take out the championships, I think championships are a great barometer, but some guys just don't have enough team around them. Dan Marino is another example, you just can't lead crap to a championship, lebron knew that and thats why he built his own dream team.
As Pop would say, "back to San Antonio" Yeah, eddiegotsnubbed Malone isn't half as great as Duncan and remember Malone went to the finals with the Lakers and STILL lost.
just checked from 1987-2000 Malone averaged under 25 points ONCE, and it was 23.8 points. From 1986-2003 he averaged over 21 points per game EVERY YEAR. Tim Duncan thanks to the great teams he's been on, has averaged 20 ppg once since 2005.....so he's definitely been alot luckier than the mailman team wise
malone went to the finals with the lakers at like age 37 are you seriously mentioning that? It was his final year and he was trying to get a ring, put a 28 year old malone on that team and they win
Karl Malone in 19 seasons (25 ppg/10 reb/3.6 assists/1.4 steals career) 36928 points 14968 rebounds 5248 assists 2048 steals 52% FG 74% FT vs Tim Duncan in 16 seasons (20 pts/11 rebs/3 assists/2.2 blocks career) 23785 points 13219 rebounds 3600 assists 51% FG 69% FT Tim will never have the career numbers of malone, not saying he couldn't bc Im sure he could have put up those numbers if he had less support and played more minutes in recent years. Just saying Malone basically went at the league on his own and never had a tony parker or manu ginobili guy who could drop 30 on the other team at any time. John Stockton was a hall of famer, but he wasn't that scorer other teams feared, none of his teammates were.
another year, another thread of people saying that this is the least year of Spurs contention. Isn't this like the 3rd year in a row now?
Is your argument SERIOUSLY yay points? Kobe will almost certainly surpass Jordan in scoring totals, is Kobe better than Jordan?
They've got around $20 million to work with if they let everybody loose that isn't under contract. That's enough to sign Iggy and Millsap if they are creative, which they are. Possible S&T using Splitter there or sending Splitter elsewhere and sending Denver a smaller asset to execute S&T. If Muscala is sitting there at the bottom of the 1st round, I'd be surprised if the Spurs didn't take him. If one of the other bigs falls (Plumlee or Withey), they could be a draft target of San Antonio. San Antonio could trade back into the second round, pick up Cleveland's 2 picks, then wind up with a young athletic wing that can shoot it like Snell to go along with Muscala. Lots of possibilities for the Spurs here. They could make a run for Dwight but all the above is assuming Dwight is gone. They will come back rebuilt with Timmy and Tony and Kawhi, plus at least 1 star level free agent player (Iggy or Millsap, possibly Pek) and a very fundamentally sound youngster or two. Nando De Colo is waiting to fill the Manu role. He's got great size, great handle, and can shoot. This team was a Tony Parker tweaked hamstring away from a ring this season. I truly believe that Parker was hampered just enough with that injury that he couldn't play at his very best and it cost them a ring. They'll make another run next year.
But you know. Since a lot of ppl on here want to say championships mean nothing... Karl Malone must be the greatest PF to ever play the game.
They should make a run at Milsap and OJ Mayo. They need another competent big and they need another playmaker to replace what Manu used to give them.
Stockton assisted on so many of Malone's shots...Duncan did it in a variety of ways...and yes they were remarkably healthy...but they didnt beat the Bulls and they had 2 chances...Duncan beat their opponents when they had to...and wouldve beat the Heat in game 6...if it werent for the collective choke job by the Spurs...up 5 in a finals game and not winning is just bad...and to add that...they missed FT's, the heat made em last night... Malone put up better numbers...but there is a reason why...he did have the alltime leader in assists and steals as well...
It's crazy that a team that was a basket away from being champions also could have enough cap space to sign the most expensive FA on the market.
Should Dwight go to the Spurs??? Tim Duncan and Howard on the block??? wow... Duncan, Howard, Kawhi, TP and Green...is just scary good...but who knows...
