Garnett needs to take the damn ball to the hole. If you are a 7'1" PF you should not take 20 fadaways per game.
Good lord, stop with these East/West comparisons when comparing aggressiveness. Garnett is an excellent player, but he needs to be a lot more selfish at certain times in the game. Like I said, no one expects them to win the series, but play like you believe you can.
Garnett is one of the 5 best players in the league--the problem is he is facing the 3 time defending champs who have 2 of the other 5 and veteran playoff tested role players. It is the worst possible match up because the Wolves are a defensive oriented team with only average scoring potency--and because of Shaq no matter how good your defensive is the Lakers will always be able to get decent shots. In the last couple of years how many playoff series have the Blazers, Jazz, Rockets or Suns won either? If KG and his Wolves were in the East they would be odds on favorites, unlike T-Mac's team. I like to see how Detriot--the Wolves of the East and #1 seed--would play against the Lakers. Nevermind, I wouldn't want to see that. The only teams with a chance against the Lakers play OK interior defense and have high offensive potency to out score them. The Kings fit the bill, and maybe the Spurs if all their wing players hit their shots--which means the more likely threat is indeed the Kings.
garnett should play the worst #1 seed in league history while their defensive player of the year is hobbled?
Good Lord, you mean to tell me you don't think the T-Wolves could beat the Pistons. Could the Magic win one game from the Lakers. People shouldn't bring up the comparison in the first place. Would the Magic have finished fourth in the Western Conference, or would the T-Wolves have finished fourth with McGrady instead of Garnett. This guy's accomplishments shouldn't be diminished because he isn't scoring forty points a game.
umm okay. and JBII, who is good enough to win a title on their own? only shaq could even be considered close and he needed an amazing penny to get to the finals and a top 5 player in kobe to win his rings. no one is good enough to do it on their own. kg's problem is he keeps facing teams/people who don't have to do it on their own while he does.
Never did I say or believe the Magic would get 4th in the West, much less beat the Lakers in a 7 game series, but KG has been disappointing in the last couple of years of the playoffs. He puts up big numbers, but so do other players like Cwebb and we all know his reputation. All I'm asking is for him to be much more aggressive on the offensive end.....a.k.a. SELFISH. Damn, why is it that when a player gets critized people get defensive so quickly and bring up stupid off topic issues like comparing the situations of other players. No one thinks the Wolves or the Magic should even win one game, but that doesn't mean the Players on Minn. should feel and play that way.....especially KG. The more and more I watch KG, the more I feel he's a '2' guy rather than the number 1 guy on a team.
If the Wolves were in the east, they could win the conference championship because in the east you only need one superstar to win. However, that is not the case in the west. Minnesota doesn't have another all-star level player besides KG (Szebiak is overrated and is not an all-star) and hence they can't win in the west. Maybe it's time for them to trade KG and start over...
Same as Garnett. Top 5 players in the NBA 1. Shaq 2. McGrady 3. Kobe 4. Duncan 5. Iverson A few others I would take over Garnett Kidd Webber Nowitski Garnett is a star, like Francis but not a superstar....Superstars are not soft. DD
For the sake of this discussion: If Wally was a Laker and Kobe was on the Timberwolves roster, then Minnesota would be favored to win the NBA Championship and the Lakers wouldn't have a chance?
not sure Garnett is overrated, but Steve definitely is, how can anyone who plays NO defense every be considered a superstar, a fan's all-star but that is it.
Agreed and disagreed. 1. They may be favourites this year. But even then I would think that it's Kobe stepping up as the lead guy and KG would be the No 2 guy. That didn't answer the argument that KG may not be a lead guy type (Note: I say maybe, because I am still not sure myself). 2. I truely believe even KG + Kobe would NOT be the 3-time champs (ala dynasty) as Shaq + Kobe. Shaq is a much more dominant player than KG is and ever will be. 3. KG is not able to carry a team on his own deep to the playoffs. But Shaq might be able to do it. Don't underestimate Shaq. If Hakeem could carry a team on his own to a championship, I saw no reason why Shaq couldn't do it 1 or 2 times especially in this "no centers" era opposed to the "centers rich" era Hakeem was in. Shaq at his best + good role players could very well be a championship team IMO.
It is not an east west comparison T-mac took his team on his shoulders . .to victory Even if Garnet could not get the victory HE SHOULD HAVE TRIED! Rocket River
If KG got 14 boards and 7 assists (especially considering who else is on the Wolves) without "trying," he is anything but overrated.
KG is an amazing player, but a dominant scorer he is not. Until the puppies get such a scorer, they ain't going anywhere.
i've said this many, many times about kevin garnett: he is an excellent 2nd tier superstar...maybe the best "robin" in the league. but until: 1) he takes a lesser contract so that 2) the t-wolves can acquire "batman" he'll never get out of the first round. he just doesn't have the killer mentality that it takes to be a 1st tier superstar. that's why t-mac is a better player than him. that's why kobe's a better player than him, as well. TOP PLAYERS IN THE L: 1) shaq 2) t-mac 3) kobe 4) duncan 5) iverson/nowitski
I think if you switched KG with Kobe or Tmac IMO the Wolves would be worse. Yes, you put Shaq or TD on the Wolves and take out KG the Wolves would probably be better--and that is probably it IMO.
