Morey, the Front office, and the players do not really know where the team is headed now that Yao is done. Thats why there have been chemistry issues with the team and inconsistent performance from the bench. But they do know that they are looking at three contingency plans to move on after the Yao Ming era. - Roster Flexibility - The front office has put themselves in a great position to go in many different directions with great flexibility. They have players and contracts that have high value/low cost that can be moved easily or will come off the books after this season. They have enough talent to remain competitive for a playoff spot and are just lacking one impact player can put them in the top 5 in the West. No other team has the ability to go from lottery bound to playoff bound quicker than the Rockets. -Looking for "the guy"- All reports show that Morey is being very aggressive about looking at all players that could be available and shopping every player and contract on the Rockets roster. This tells me that they are looking for a player that they can build around, and also addressing needs at the Center postion and the SF position long term. You might be very surprised at the players that will become available next week. I wouldn't even rule out the chance at a Chris Paul type of player becoming available at the last minute. -Worst case scenario- Draft picks. If no players are out there I could see Morey making moves to move up in the 2012 draft. Most likely making deals with teams like Minnesota, Sacramento, and the Wizards. Next years draft does not have the talent that the 2012 draft is likely to have. They still have the ability to get two quality picks next season and I wouldn't rule out them trading a player like Brooks in order to get a quality pick this year, but Morey has spoken about the talent he thinks will be in the 2012 draft, and I think he will look for a top 5 pick in 2012. -After next week I think we will get a clear understanding where this team is headed. Option 1 is prying away a player to build around. Option 2 is addressing needs long term for role players at the Center position and Option 3 is drafting high superstar Talent with good talent already on the roster.
