I watched Dream last night, in the 1993 Pheonix series, and Barkely pulled the rug out during a post up and Dream fell down on his keister. I also watched as KG got stripped in the post. It just goes to show you that many of the things that happen to Yao happen all over the league on a nightly basis, even to the greats, we just choose to forget it sometimes.
Don't get me wrong I love Yao on the Rockets, but his vertical jump is about 6". That is not going to change as he gets older. But if I was Van Poo-Poo I would have him walking around in these all day. Add 5-10 inches to your vertical leap. Take 2/10 of a second off your 40. Increase anaerobic power 500%. How can you make this argument when YAO has better stats than Ilgauskis, not to mention how many times is Big Z ever double teamed?
Yao will have met expectations when he gets the defensive rebound on one side of the court, dribbles the ball back down the full length of the court, does a spin move to avoid a defender and then tomahawk jams the ball for 2 points, gets fouled and makes the free throw.
When he lives up to the hype that supported his selection as the No. 1 pick in the draft, something which Shaq has done notwithstanding his descension from the heights of his glory days with the Magic and Lakers. DISCLAIMER: Yao is pretty good as-is. My point of contention with him (and some of you on the BBS) is that Yao, while touted as a teacher's dream, continually fails to learn from his teachers. It's like Yao is the little engine that can but doesn't seem to do it.
I think it's just that Yao is not as quick as the other guys. It wouldn't look as bad if you are athletic enough to bounce back up immediately after you sit on your a$$. We are talking about the art of making your mistake less ugly here.
You know if Yao had a Power forward who could throw entry passes like he himself does, teams fronting Yao would be a thing of the past. Yao has thrown some pretty good entry passes to McGrady and other players when they were being fronted and it is a thing of beauty. The reason we need a power forward to deliver the pass is because the PF usually is the one who is coming over to help. If we place McGrady on side and guard on the other side and place the Pf at the top of the key who is going to help? The guards, in that case, if the guards come over, the PF passes to one of the guards who has an open three. Or, he can pass to Yao who takes two steps and has dunk. I don't understand why Yao has to set picks (which eats up like 7 seconds on the shot clock) then posts up. I don't like JVG system. It depends too much on outside shooting. We needs to throw some slashers out there and use Yao's passing ability.
So did they work for you, or are you selling them on Ebay? I just need 2 more inches so I could dunk with both hands.
Believe it or not. Gheorge Muresan did that. The only difference was he faked pass instead of the spin. And he took off from the free throw line. I almost dropped my pants.
One thing I don't get is why Yao keeps fouling. He knows better by now. Stop swiping at the ball. The fouls this last week have been mental.
