Brilliant, Stone, lowballing him during one of the worst shooting slumps

Good gracious we got Matthews ON THE CHEAP. That is the most team friendly deal I have seen in years. I love it for the Rockets, but wow, what was Matthews and his agent thinking? Selling himself short big time.

A month ago he was a fringe NBA player, so I'm sure he's over the moon to get this money.

4 years at such a low rate is an absolute steal for us. Even if he never is able to repeat his recent success there's basically no way you regret such a small yearly number.

He must love this group but basically this.

His colleagues can change throughout the years.

Not going to lie, I can’t wait to root for Mathews to get hot again now that I know he’s locked up on a long-term, team friendly deal. I was so worried he was going to cash in on his unsustainable hot shooting and get massively overpaid. Those deals always look regrettable a year or 2 later. A team in the position the Rockets are at in regards to their rebuild has no business handing out ridiculous contracts to role players. Now that I don’t have that looming in the back of my mind, I hope he goes crazy.

At first I thought the league minimum was around 3 or 5 million dollars a year... But it's only 925, 000. With his recent success and new contract he's only being paid slightly above league minimum that is amazing. Good job stone

8 million and job security is nothing to sneeze at. After going 1-17, I'm sure GMat's hand was shaking signing all 12 pages. Went from a journeyman to a wing with a home. I see him having a coaching career in him too. Imagine, getting a mansion and enough of a contract to live off of the dividends for the rest of your life.

Walmart and oil stocks, Garrison. Put that money to work.

Garrison should have held out and done a Danuel House....he could have gotten much more guaranteed money.

Very similar to another player on the team.

You wouldn’t include a hall of famer? One of the best first baseman of all time?

With an opportunity to play four full 82 game seasons for the first time in his career, this is effectively his multi year rookie contract.

He went from being undrafted, the only player to ever make the NBA from Lipscomb University; making league minimum and getting cut by two teams. Now has NBA security, a chance to shine for a bigger bag with development and showcasing consistency.

Well done G. Mathews, well done.

This man was hungry. Starving. I’m happy for him. He could’ve bet on himself, but he’s been betting on himself this whole time and has been disappointed over and over again. Feeling like he’s earned a real contract and never getting one. He took the sure thing. Not mad at him. 8 million dollars is nothing to sneeze at. He basically woke up a millionaire today for the first time.

I think Matthews knows what type of player he is and was happy to get that money and security.
