mcgrady has WISELY cut back on the dunking. he's doing what every other superstar generally does as they enter their prime, using his knowledge and saving his body. nick mentioned hakeem and you could throw in jordan as well. mcgrady will still get some dunks but he doesn't need to.

Dunks are over rated. The only people who care about dunks are the ESPN talking heads who need them for highlights. I'll take 44pts off of layups any ole' day of the week if the Rockets can win.

P.S. - why don't you try being a little more positive towards the Rockets instead of critiquing them and posting negative videos of Yao if you really are a fan

    Good Day!

Sorry to bump this but i really didn't feel like bringing it up anywhere else.

"I don't dunk that much. My body can't take it like that anymore,'' McGrady said."

Finally have his word, but that sucks i thought he was doing it cause he didn't want to get hurt. Under 30 and hes got a lot of miles on him.

I hate this reasoning. Plenty of other players have MORE miles on them but aren't making excuses about it (Kobe and KG are just 2 guys off the top of my head that still go at MVP level and have considerably more "miles" on their bodies). There have been very few superstar players that fall apart this early, unless they have a serious surgery such as microfracture. Tracy has a nagging back deficiency, which isn't the same.

His dunking last night even had JVG applauding. Tmac should start dunking the ball again. It brings so much momentum. When he dunked on Bradley, the whole stadium got silent.

He needs to get in better shape if his body cant even take a dunk anymore. Until you turn 35, you have no excuse for loss of athelticism.

er he said this after a missive putback dunk in two guy's faces even though he got fouled, I think that was said tongue in cheek...

Nice way to bump this old thread and make you look even more stupid than the last time.

Maybe you should go to the library and read some books on human biology and medicine.

BTW, It's pretty obvious that T-Mac can still dunk even though some of his jaw-dropping jumping ability has been lost. He chooses not to do it to wisely save his body.

Totally agree with you on this. Tmac saves his dunks for all those money jumpers and layups, why not? Cann't you see even kobe dunks much less than before. Tmac has a back problem, it certainly affects him a little bit. Dunks mean nothing if Tmac maintains his shooting touch like the last 20 games. I am loving it.

he's playing at an MVP level too and his team is performing better, so what do they have to do with it?

He doesn't always play at an MVP level. He often says in his own words that he's feeling old. He claims to have lost a step.

Garnett and Bryant have more wear on their bodies, and neither of those guys has ever NOT played at an MVP level since they became superstars, nor have they claimed to be slowing down. Although Kobe alluded to it when he came back from his knee surgery, that obviously went by the wayside in no time.

My point is Tracy seems to use that as a crutch (no pun intended) at times, but other elite players don't say things like that, even though they should be a lot closer than him to losing a step based on the miles they've put on their bodies.

    Get it?

    Try again.

I'm well aware, and happy, that Tracy is playing at an MVP level right now. I just think it's weak when he says he can't do this or that because his body feels so old. It's a built in excuse that doesn't even make a whole lot of sense when you compare him to other players. He's either exaggerating, or his body is extraordinarily frail. Or more likely his mind.

Why does it matter what he says?

It's about what he does isn't it?

If he plays well, I don't care if he only speaks in Chinese

My point is that when he isn't playing well, he has developed a tendency to use his age as an excuse, rather than just saying he's in a slump or didn't feel good on a particular night or that the defense bothered him. If you've ever played serious basketball, you know it's all about confidence and believing in your abilities. I don't like to hear that one of our superstar doesn't think he can do certain things anymore. He obviously can (as he's showing) so why can't he believe it?

Doubting yourself can make a 1 or 2 game slump last for weeks. That's what worries me, and that's why I care what he says as well as what he does.
