Christmas brought us Jingle All the Way, without a doubt the greatest Christmas movie ever. I had a bunch of stuff I wanted to say but everyone seemed to hit on it as the thread progressed. Basically: 1. No one's trying to get rid of Christmas. We're also not trying to ban your Bible, despite what you're being told. Although admittedly, we would like to see it stop being the final word on "moral" issues. 2. Christmas for a lot of people is really not even about Jesus anymore. It's about the lights, the presents, and the time spent with family. Sounds like a good holiday to me. 3. Do the Republicans hate Muslims because Congress refuses to declare Ramadan a national holiday? No, Republicans hate Muslims because they have brown skin. 4. If you ever for a second think that America, ultra-capitalist country that it is, will stop celebrating it's most profitable and marketable holiday, you are long gone in the head. 5. Christmas isn't even the day that Jesus was born. You can celebrate it any time you want to. 6. Liberals hate lots of things. But Republicans hate lots of people. I'll take the hippies. I am an atheist and a liberal and I love Christmas. I look forward to it every year. I hope it doesn't offend you that I, a person with no belief in God and one who doesn't consider Jesus anything other than a philosopher, celebrates a holiday that you feel is the last vestige of America's great history (whipping blacks, suppressing women, and stealing money from our own citizens). Christmas has become so much more than just Christmas. I would be competely ok with it becoming nothing more than just the "Winter Holiday". Let the government still endorse it as a national holiday, everyone will still take off the days preceeding and following, and everyone can define what the holiday is for themselves, whether it be Christmas, Hannukah, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, whatever. For people who constantly talk about a united America, conservatives sure never seem to jump on anything that might potentially unite Americans. They only jump on the things the other guy is doing to "divide" Americans. Like disagreeing with the Republican viewpoints. What's the harm in doing away with "Christmas" and replacing it with a holiday exactly the same, but designed for everybody to be able to celebrate? Happy Chrismahannakwanzakah to you. MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYBODY. Let's skip Thxgiving and get to the good stuff already. You know Thanksgiving ain't that great of a holiday when all people look forward to is eating food and sitting on the couch (which you do every day). And it shows how great Christmas is that Thanksgiving really only serves as the trailer to the fantastic movie that is the Christmas season. I'm out.
Sorry, just had to dig this up to post this... Fox betrays Christmas crusade, sells "Holiday" ornaments for your "Holiday tree" Although Fox News hosts Bill O'Reilly and John Gibson have lambasted what they see as a "secular" "war on Christmas," Fox News' own online store advertises "Holiday" ornaments rather than "Christmas" ornaments, as apparently first noted on the weblog Daily Kos. The items are grouped under the category "Holiday Ideas." O'Reilly, host of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, has recently waged a campaign against corporations that greet customers with "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." For his part, Gibson, the host of Fox News' The Big Story with John Gibson, has published a book titled The War on Christmas: How the Liberal Plot to Ban the Sacred Christian Holiday Is Worse Than You Thought (Sentinel, October 2005). Despite O'Reilly's specific criticism of those who use the term "holiday tree" instead of "Christmas tree," an O'Reilly Factor ornament for sale at the Fox News store features this tagline: "Put your holiday tree in 'The No Spin Zone' with this silver glass 'O'Reilly Factor' ornament." Picture of The O'Reilly Factor Holiday Ornament The O'Reilly Factor Holiday Ornament Product #: FOX21001200 Price: $9.95 Order Qty: Put your holiday tree in "The No Spin Zone" with this silver glass "O'Reilly Factor" ornament. I had a long post in response to your "argument" but I just deleted it. I realized that it's not worth the time to respond to someone with so much hatred in their heart. I'll just leave it at that. Merry Christmas.
I didn't see anything wrong with his comment. Not sure if he was being argumentative, just frank.... How did it personally offend you? I generally rile some members here, but I'd really like to know your perspective.
guess whoes working christmas, at the pharmacy america trusts o well, id be pissed more if i celebrated it
sorry brother, working on a day when everyone else is off sucks. at least it will probably be really slow. peace be unto you.
No. But I didn't expect for him to be hateful about it by saying he'd be "pissed" if he celebrated it. Its evident he has something against it. I'm christian and I don't have anything against muslims or ramadan.
I was wondering how to reply to that rolleyes myself without sounding snarky. Thanks Max for saving me from myself.
NO GOOFBALL. He would be more PISSED about working on Christmas if he actually celebrated the holiday. LORD have mercy, can we knock the battery off your soldier already?
He isn't bashing a holiday. He is just stating that if he celebrated Christmas, he would be more pissed about not getting the day off.
