Christmas is too commercialized as it is. Taking Christmas back to its true meaning woudl be great. Nobody needs a government endorsement to celebrate a Christian day of celebration. I'm a liberal Christian, but wouldn't want to live in a Christian theocracy either.
I don't have a heart. I'm a liberal remember? Lighten up reggietodd. It's all in fun. No one's going to take away your stocking.
We make fun, but I woulldn't put it past Rove to start screaming "Bush alone stands alone against the Right Wing, Michael Moore loving LIBERALS who wish to destroy christmas!, A Vote for a Democrat is a Vote Against Christmas!"
Have you ever heard of Joan Brown Campbell. She was the head of the National Council of Churches. Anyway here is a link to some short interviews with her. You might like it. You can also check out the website of the NCC if you would like. I don't know if you are familiar with them or not. Most protestant churches and the Greek Orthodox are all members. http://speakingoffaith.publicradio.org/programs/livingreconciliation/index.shtml http://www.ncccusa.org/
The USA will never stop celebrating Christmas. 1. Our economy would go into a stinking recession without it. 2. It's a perfect storm of cultural narratives. The United States government might stop endorsing it as a national holiday, but that doesn't mean that people aren't free to do so. Let me ask you something reggietodd, do the Republicans hate Muslims because the Congress refuses to declare Ramadan a national holiday? I don't think so. Keeping government secular is not an attack on any religion, it's an attempt to create fairness for the diverse populous. Do yourself a favor, everytime someone on the radio starts telling you what 'liberals' or 'conservatives' want to do, turn the radio off. The person you're listening to is a partisan douche bag in the mold of Sean Hannity or that annoying woman on Air America. Instead of writing off people of different political persuasions as conniving, try a little bit of critical thinking.
1. No one on here is campaigning to get rid of Christmas as a national holiday. 2. You fell for the "all the atheists and liberals" junk - that's the political part.
Sorry, I must have missed it. That's what I get for posting in 6 or 7 threads at the same time. My bad, and I apologize. I'm totally pissed off about the filthy, despicable language being used by Bush, Cheney and Hastert, along with the little trolls licking their boots in Congress, regarding Murtha's sincere statement regarding the war. You could say I'm distracted. Sorry about that. Keep D&D Civil.
Actually, liberals love pizza and the Beatles, because they come from Europe. They only like that crappy pizza with no sauce and goat cheese though.
Heh... Over 40% of the retail industry's yearly profits come in the period after Thanksgiving Day to the end of December. Even if it wasn't a national holiday, most sales companies would beg their employees to spend those couple days off. Not that I hate/don't celebrate Christmas. Just being realistic here....
