I kid, I don't hate Christians. Most of my friends are partially Christian, at least on Sundays anyways.
Very good grasshopper Modernists contend that December 25 was only adopted in the fourth century as a Christian holiday by the Roman Emperor Constantine, to encourage a common religious festival for both the Christians and the Pagans. The early christians designated Dec 25th as the birth of christ to pre-empt (there's that word again) the pagen holiday of the winter solstice. This was a very popular holiday and the early christians were looking for a way to suppress the pagens.
This is why I think this country is going down the drain because people everywhere, and the majority on this board evidentally don't care if Christmas is no longer celebrated as it is now. All of the things that made this country great are slowing being phased out. I know i'm outnumbered here, so all of you atheists fire away.

atheists like me? it's not important to me if it's a national holiday. as long as i'm free to celebrate the holiday without persecution, i'm fine.

You can celebrate anything you want. Why do you care if the government doesn't recognize a holiday? Also, I don't think Christmas is what made USA great. I believe it was the establishment of a democratic republic, checks and balances, and some damn smart founding fathers that made America great.
No, the conservative/religious political movement is trying to make people such as yourself think liberals are evil. It's standard procedure for them - ex-officials in the Christian Coalition have even admitted such. And you fell for it perfectly.
How did I fall for it if the majority of the people posting in this thread are saying that it would be ok with them if we got rid of christmas? You have to remember, everyone on this board who chimes in on D&D discussions strives to be politically correct whether or not they actually believe in their heart what they are saying is right or wrong.

What are you talking about? No one wants to get 'rid' of Christmas. Do you not have the capacity to celebrate a holiday unless it is recognized by the government? If every Christian died except you, would you stop being Christian? You can celebrate ANYTHING you want. In fact, you can celebrate every single day as Christmas. It doesn't really matter to me.
