If only the AI sprinkled in some words like: 'optionality', 'for sure', and a few nervous laughter, in the response.
Y'all act like the front office has control of how ping pong balls bounce. We had like 14 percent at Wemby, we didn't get it, what they suppose to say about it
Correct, FO can't control the ping pong, but problem is it looked like they really needed lady luck. Because the other stuff hasn't gone well. 1) Unlike the last two drafts where the choice selection is down to choosing between 2-3 players. The options right now is too wide open, and the supposed one, don't look good at all. 2) There's linger questions on which is young core and which players to gut if new people come in and team is to consolidate. Is KPJ a PG? (no) What does a garuba looks like with Sengun. (no one knows, Silas opted for Boban at times instead) Started KJ, but it really should be Tari? Team wants a PG, does Rockets have meaningful NBA lineup data on Tyty. What's going to happen to JC or Tate. If you trade them, do you feed the new mouth(s). Is Stone ok with starting to cut players from his era. 3) Trades and signing. * Wood and Gordon not just traded too late but we didn't get anything really valuable out of it. * Rented out cap space for Wall: then watched as Wiz got Lakers bubble champion role players out of Westbrook. We sat Wall, who at the end... got his money, but still bad mouth the org. 4) What is our track record for improving a young player's shot. If Amen comes here is he going to shoot better. Development. kPj improved some of his shooting. Green ok. Tate didn't add a 3 ball. Rest: JC, Sengun, Garuba, and KJ, never quite added the shot or is at too low of volume to know. Org let go one wave of assistant coaches for another wave under Silas. Now another replacement of coaching staff. Ime is named, but so far, chirp chirp, no word on any assistants search. Per Iko on roundball (last week) he hasn't heard anything, believes they haven't started yet. 5) Didn't accumulate additional good assets outside the young picks. So when it comes to trade up in draft (to teams like win now Portland), we, at best, is a 3rd team (in trade discussion), have nothing to offer directly to Blazers for a chance at Miller/Henderson. 6) Harden might not come. (to some, ppl like this but, that's one less option off the table.) ---------- The nervousness is that paths forward are blurry, and we can see the FO don't have the best leverage. They didn't accumulate enough good assets during the rebuild years. Only few things we have, people are reluctant to use. Cap space, don't over pay on player X. Bari, Green, (And maybe Tari and Sengun) are near untouchable. Don't be impulsive. Don't use these future Nets picks, save it for a future disgruntled star. If Stone picks up the phone, what does he have to bargain with? How do people expect other teams to give up their Mikal, or their #2/#3, if there's all these bargaining conditions. Maybe the answer is running back the same group with a new HC. Are folks here ok with it? Is the owner? Is Rafael?.... since he promised phase 2.
There was always an almost 75% chance we weren’t getting Wemby or Scoot, we actually got lucky getting 2,3,4 the last three seasons. Why should anyone be depressed or surprised? You get a great young player if the pick is not traded and move on…the future is bright
I believe they are going through their plan Rocket’s Plan: Sign Harden Draft Amen For their future point guard Do a sign and trade for Mikal Bridges or Kris Middleton or Jaylen Brown or Cam Johnson for KPJ, Tate and Martin
This year's draft has 5 players that would be a top pick in most drafts. Miller would be #1 in most drafts needing an immediate contributor. Walker would be #1 in a typical draft. Amen could be #1 in a draft going off of pure potential. I mean, look at the Suns with Durant. Having the best player doesn't make you the better team. Jokic doesn't win popularity contests, but he wins games. Wemby might not pan out. Amen could become the truth. Miller or Walker could end up being Tatum type players. You gotta let this stuff play out.
