Half the D&D front-page threads are about the guy. When will he stop being the biggest topic in politics? Related: How long did Bush or Obama remain the biggest topic in politics after they left office? Is this normal? This feels not normal.
I feel like Obama/Bush were still a relatively big deal for a year after they were out of office. This is a unique situation though, it's been a very bizarre, dividing, emotional, and flat-out ****ed up time for America. Obama/Bush didn't have a dollar store coup attempt by their diehard fans, they didn't claim their elections were stolen. There are tens of millions of Americans who truly believe the election was stolen, and even more who are unsure/think it's a real possibility.
IIRC it took a couple of months into the Trump Presidency for Obama news to fade. The MSM is like a large ship at sea; it takes awhile to change course. It does not help that Trump by nature is a media w****, but the Twitter perma-ban has really, really help. It also does not help that Trump has all of these high profile legal cases making headlines.
It's not normal but Trump wasn't a normal President. As I said in another thread just moving on and ignoring Trump and more importantly his movement could lead to another Trump.
Most of the titles don't have Trump in them, though the discussion trends towards it. Impeachment is still fresh until stimulus talks stall... Hate to ask a count for it, but I do get your point with cable news and late night talk circuit still talking about that guy. Best heat check is the vibe after Biden's first 100 days, post stimulus and his general vaccine rollout is expected to produce results...
People still talk about Andrew Jackson, or, if you're on Cracked or any young-male centric message board, Teddy Roosevelt for some reason not related to anti-trust enforcement or third-party politics. Presidents are a GPS for American History, and superficial ideas about male leadership.
Probably when one political party stops bowing down to his feet and doing whatever he tells them to. As long they do that, he's relevant. Neither Bush or Obama tried to be the face of the party after they left office.
Can't people just ignore him though? Didn't he win the 2016 election in the first place because he kept getting media attention and buzz - moreso than the other candidates? If so, then..... why are we doing that again? Why? Just ignore. Move on. Talk about Biden, Kamala, the current House and Senate, etc. Then in a couple years, talk about the challengers. Are we really going to just talk about ****ing Don ****ing Trump for the rest of our lives? Let's just move on. Please. Please.
That's all true. But... it's done. It's over. They can believe whateverthehell they want. Let them. It doesn't matter. Pat them on the head and then let's move on to bigger and better things.
agree not normal. We need to compare this to the last time a POTUS refused to concede, tried to overturn a lawful election, and kept a whole political party largely thinking that was okay. Once we have that comparison lined up, we can go to town on these D&D fools!
I disagree! I think giving him non-stop attention is far more likely to lead to Trump 2.0 than just ignoring him. I mean, isn't the extreme level of attention how he came to be President in the first place?
My pessimistic side agrees with the bolded; he will be our signature political topic until he's dead. God damn. That will be exhausting
That describes it well. trump has yet to stop saying that the election was “stolen” from him, which is an absolute lie. Most of the leaders of the Republican Party are making the pilgrimage to Mar-A-Lago to “kiss his ring” and play to trump’s fantasies, hoping for either an endorsement from him, or at least to suck up enough to trump that he won’t attack them. As long as this is going on, as long as the lies about the election are being repeated, and as long as trump dreams of somehow being re-elected in 2024, he will be a strong topic of discussion. Anything less would be an absurdity.
Talking about Trump keeps Trump alive, man. The Repub politicians who still support him do it only because it's still a topic. They don't actually give a **** about Trump or those who vote for him. I'm saying that I don't want Trump to be a topic. I'm begging for it to not be a topic. Does anyone actually think he or his inner circle are going to face any real legal consequences? Of course they won't. It's a work, bro, to borrow professional wrestling terminology.
