Not an avid smoker. Rarely do it at all. Did as a youth. To me the question is as much about the potential business opportunity as "I'd love me some legal pot!" as I may have some opportunity to start interacting with the industry from a business perspective. Texas and California will obviously be bellweather states to the industry size. As is the market is multi-billion and experiencing hockey stick growth, but with full legalization we're talking at least a $20+ billion industry.
20 years. It will be the last state to legalize it. The state's Prison Lobby, small town drug task forces will make sure of that. There's just as much revenue to be made in Texas legalizing Weed as there is keeping it illegal.
Texas would file a lawsuit just like they did after the ACA. I by all means don't associate Texas with its citizens but the lack of Voter Referendum. We can't force our own Government to change laws lake they can in Colorado and California. We are almost slaves to the state Government. Look at redistricting.
About the same time we allow gambling. We're such a backassward state sometimes. All this talk about government needing to stay out of our lives, etc and yet we don't allow Tesla to sell here nor do we allow gambling.
Best case scenario is Major cities in Texas de-criminalize pot in next 5 years. Would be major blow to State Troopers who pretty much exist to confiscate valuables associated with pot. They've been eating steak because of drug arrests. Take that away and they officers will lose jobs. Everyone should read this: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2013/08/12/taken
In five years I could see a statewide referendum for Medical mar1juana passing. Flatout legalization? Not in Rocketman95's lifetime.
Look Next door at the money Louisiana making on Casinos Has not moved the needle on legalization of gambling here . . . .. so I don't think Texas is moved by the economics of it Rocket River
Texas loves it some prohibition, there are still dry counties here.....I doubt they'll ever legalize/decriminalize mar1juana and if they did, as a trade, they'd have to make something else that is harmless illegal.
I for one cannot WAIT to move away from the ass backwards state and never return. Proud to be born here but ready to leave it behind and never return.
