hmm. this got me to thinking that mabye mcgrady's fg % is actually more deserving than what most ppl think. he does take some pretty tough shots, the same situation that Ariza is in now, and just last year ariza was a pretty good shooter.
the shots ariza is taking would be considered "easy" or great shots for mcgrady. tracy takes much tougher shots than that. when he does return, hopefully both he and ariza learn to take better and easier shots, by using the offense.
I agree with DaDa... this is an 82 game training camp. The luxury with this young team as opposed to most young teams is that every key cog has been exposed to major playoff intensity, so you don't have to worry about getting them playoff experience. Sure, it'd be great if that happens, but this is a foundation year, both in terms of the development from players that will be on the team and the organizational moves to position the Rockets for future glory. For this year, wins are good but player and team progress are better. I trust Adelman to either let Ariza develop or lead Ariza to self-awareness.
and somewhen we're talking about how badly TMAC's shotting pcg, guess no everyone can be a star, uhm?
say what you want about Tmac.. he can still dribble and facilitate. Release him and let's see what he can do. Rockets are already losing.. might as well mix it up.
agreed, but it is tough to tell which way adelman is going. i think they really want ariza to develop new skills, such as ball control and shooting off the dribble. IMO those are the only two things holding him back from being a go-to guy. it doesn't look like he's improving just yet, but it might be worth letting him try for the season since the playoffs are a long shot.
Half the people in this thread complaining are the ones who thought he was going to be an All Star or near All Star. Amazing how reality sets in and changes perspective. Having said that, let the guy shoot and let the coaching staff help him tune his game. No need to "rein him in" when no one else on the team is a legit go-to scorer except for maybe Landry. This is a throw away season so we might as well polish up what we have so the players can know their roles next season when (hopefully) things are looking up.
True, The other thing that people tend to forget is that Ariza is a true 3 and not a 2.... He's actually playing out of position, but handling the transaction well.
I'm not ready to toss the season aside by being a slave to developing players on the team. We still have a real chance to make the playoffs. Had we won two games in a row against Dallas and SA, the GARM would be filled with people overreacting to that, just as they are overreacting to a couple of losses. And while I never said Ariza shouldn't be taking shots, some of the ones he's taking are pretty rediculous. I'd rather Landry or Scola were taking some of those shots, or that Lowry and Budinger were busy "developing" themselves. Ariza has taken 273 shots. That's 17 shots per game at the lowest percentage of any player on the Rocks getting any minutes. The only player who comes close to that number is Brooks (at 219), and while he's been in a slump, at least we know he can make a good percentage of them.
Landry and Scola are big men. How many shots they can get is dependent on how the opponent plays defense. I think this is pretty clear after years of watching Yao consistently get less shots than Rafer. Lowry is not a shoot-first PG. That's not his role. Besides, he can't shoot. Budinger is a freaking rookie. The guy gets way more shots than most rookies have this season. Adelman wants to develop him, not destroy his confidence by throwing him into the fire. The only other player on this team who can take shots away from Ariza is Brooks. Except Brooks isn't shooting so well either. Those two are the only players who are counted on to "create" things. And both suck at it. Yet, they are still better than our other players at it.
Can somebody send a message to the ROx, tell that ariza guy stopping jacking his aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaass up
That goes into what Deckard was saying, kind of. How is Ariza allowed to expand his game when he's never shown to be a good shooter outside a half a season. But Lowry just "plays his role" and he's confined within his limitations, not expanding on them like Ariza is. And he's younger than Ariza? Its mostly cuz Ariza is signed on for multiple years for the long term, as a Rockets "fixture". And Lowry and everyone else isnt.
the op must be kidding, you dont rein in a stallion like Ariza, you got to let him roam free...20-25 shots a night!...lol
License to shoot a little more than he would normally - sure ... but don't go overboard. No matter who it is - they should still be accountable for what they put up. Against OKC tonight - 7/23 and 1/9 from 3Pt. Yikes! Put the reins on.
The difference between Lowry and Ariza is 7 inches. Lowry can't create his own shot. If the lane isn't open for a drive, he can't do anything. Ariza, no matter how bad a shooter he may be, at least can jack one up. I don't want to sound like I want Ariza to be putting up 20 shots a game. I cringe when I see him keep jacking it up. But I just really can't see the alternatives.
