Besides Hakeem Olajuwon, what player have the rockets developed into a legitimate marquee player. Yao Ming was one but only for a while. Francis declined quickly.. Eddie Griffin was a bust. Rudy Gay was never a rocket. I know there have been great players in rockets history but I'm talking about after 95.

I see players like Kevin Durant, Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant been with their team for a while and they are always getting or got better.

Rockets have had chances with some of their young players but it seems just when they are making strides they get traded to a lousy team and they never recover. I look at Carl Landry. If we still had him I think we could still had developed him into a great player.

How much of it has to do with the coaching staff who do not know how to evaluate talent?
And if we do get a player it seems it was only for a while ( Clyde , pippen, t-Mac, Barkley)

    This.

Most of the stars the OP listed were all top 10 picks. After Yao, we never had one; it was always low first round picks (except the ones we traded.)

Hard when you don't have a high lotto pick, Yao was the closest and we saw what happened there.

By the way, Clyde and Barkley were close to the end and Pippen wasn't a superstar by the time he got here.

Superstar is a stretch to describe Mr. Gay...

Uh, no. Landry was pretty much at his peak. You're forgetting dude was already 26 when we traded him. Not young, but you're pretty much certain to be at least 90% finished in learning new stuff by that point.

You answered your own question when you named Hakeem.

Yao's career took a dive, but when you consider what Yao was when he got here compared to what he became at his peak (which lasted a month or two), I don't know of too many people outside of Hakeem the Rockets have developed more than he did as a basketball player. In 30+ years of watching the Rockets, I've never seen anyone dominate the ball offensively like Yao did that 2006-2007 season right before he got injured. Offensively, he was the most unstoppable offensive force in the post I'd seen since probably Shaq.

But, of course, injuries have apparently killed his career...

We havent had any number top 10 picks because we specialise being a mediocre team.

But we now have a 8th pick in J-Hill, 11th pick in T-Dub, and a 14th in P-Pat. While I dont think any of these guys can be groomed into superstars, T-Dub and P-Pat can be as good as Scola and Martin if not better.

Just beat the Lakers by like 20 today. The Gay-Mayo combo proved to be too much.

Durant - Sonics were bad, got the #2 pick
Wade - Miami had some rough years after the Zo/Hardaway era, got the #5 pick
James - Cavs were pathetic, led by Ricky Davis...won draft lottery.
Melo - Nuggets were piss poor from 96-2003...got #3 pick
Paul - Hornets were a sad sack of a team after Davis got traded, got the #4 pick
Duncan - Spurs were ravaged by injuries in 1997, won lottery
Kobe - everyone can't have a prime Vlade Divac as a trade chip and a rookie that DOES NOT WANT TO PLAY FOR YOU.

As you can see, for the most part, in order to get good, you have to SUCK.

Superstars develop themselves for the most part, as the main ingredients are structural/mental. They just need time to gain experience, but you gotta get them first. What you are asking is why they can't make someone a superstar, but that doesn't really happen, so no point in complaining about it.

Injuries are accidents/bad luck and are the reason we haven't had one recently, or at least not for an extended period of time.
