I'm shocked by how many heat-lovers are responding.

I've been here my whole life and I friggin' hate the heat. My viewpoint: I can be buck naked, standing under a fan and still be hot as hell. But I can always warm up from the cold.

But a lot of people in Houston aren't originally from Houston and are happy to get away from the cold (frequently, these are people who grew up in colder climates).

Why do I live here? I'm spoiled by the low housing costs and cost of living. I've built (and am trying to execute) a long-term plan of saving up enogh money and building up enough worth to move away from here to somewhere with a nicer climate.

I've lived in Houston my whole life and I hate the damn hot weather! I'd much rather it be cold than sweating my balls off in late October. I love this city, but one of these days I might try living somewhere else, just because it's too damn hot here.

    I agree.

I think another good question is, how many of the heat-lovers are native Houstonians?

    LMFAO!

This is so true - the news idiots do this **** every year as "The Big Story..."

I hate the local news, especially Channel 2.

Anyway, my problem is this - I bought a kickass gorilla costume for Halloween. I planned on wearing it starting this Friday to the bars, to the parties on Sat night, and to the Texans game on Sunday.

The way it looks now, I might just be sporting the ape mask...

Yeah. Having not lived in my hometown (well, close enough) for nearly a decade, I had to move back. However, I can seriously see myself in Northern California or Chicago in the near future. Life's too short to live it without snow, either seeing it everyday or being within a half day's drive of it. :)

Haha! Winter Blast 20004! Bring it on!!!

Due to a screw-up by Reliant (repeated screw-ups, actually), I was without power from Monday until Thursday last week. 85 degrees with high humidity? at night? in late October?! WTF indeed! I was boiling in more ways than one. I think when that glorious first day of 50 degree weather hits, I'm going to hop on my bike and take a victory lap around the block in nothing but a pair of boxers. I agree with droxford. You can always throw on another blanket or another layer of clothing when it's cold, but when you're lying completely naked on sweat-soaked sheets and it's still 85 degrees inside the house at midnight, in the middle of f-ing October, what more can you do? I've lived in Houston all my life, but I was about ready to snap last week. Give me cold any day.

    I wasnt born here....but I got here as fast as I could...:D

With the exception of the first 6 months of my life...I have always lived in Houston.....and I dont mind the heat(unless it is over 99)...but god above I LOVE Fall(autumn?)....give me low to mid 70's for a high adnd high 50's for a low...and I am a happy camper.

I do agree with the sentiment that cold is ok cause you can always put more clothes on..whereas there is a limit to how naked I am willing to get to stay cool....guess thats why I am willing to pay 350 bucks a month to keep my house at 75 degrees.

    ;)

I moved down here from Canada for the year-round golf, so that explains why I love it. If I see enough snow on my driveway that I would need to shovel it any time in the next 20 years, it'll be too soon.

We actually keep our house at 80° year-round. My theory is that the heat isn't so much of a shock to your system when it's only a 10-15 degree differential.
