This team is not built for this year, it's built for next year.

I don't think they are tanking, they just aren't as good as the teams ahead of them for the playoffs...

Next year Yao will be back and one of Martin/Ariza/Battier along with filler and picks will be used to acquire a FA by S&T, probably a PF/C....

HAHA there is a split on people who want to tank and people who dont. If you want the rockets to "prepare for the future" whats the point of even watching them anymore. I was absolutely disgusted when I saw Hilton Armstrong in the 2nd freakin quarter. You play to win. Yeah it would be nice to see Jordan Hill a little more but thats about freakin it!

Tell that to the players on the team, DM and RA. I promise they'll disagree with you.

Playoff experience is important, even if your team isn't championship calibur.

The point is to watch young players and see what they have and figure out if they are going to be able to develop their games and take it to the next level.

Look making the playoffs as the 8th seed is a complete waste of time if you have to use older veteran players to do that.

Just play the rooks.....let them get their feet wet and find out what they can and can't do in the league.

Hell Yeah Man! DD, tell that to Brooks, Lowry, Ariza, Martin, Armstrong, JJ, Battier, Hill, Budinger, Tayler, Temple, Hayes, and the rest of the Rox who sweat, blood, and tears to work hard up to that point! You really gonna tell them with a straight face to not make the playoffs! Shame on you! Ur not a real fan then! I can't believe people say they don't wanna make the playoffs! Sheez, these players risked their bodies, minds, and hearts to fight through the pain of an 82 game schedule for ONE thing and ONE thing only and thats the prestige of the PLAYOFFS! God Damn, you people make me sick!

No, of course you don't tell them to tank.....my gawd people.......

You play the young guys and if they win...great, if not, no big deal.

Come on...you don't INTENTIONALLY tank.....but you do play young guys to develop, and by proxy you probably lose more often than you normally would.

If they make the playoffs great.....but ask yourself this one question, Jeff Van Gundy won in Denver by playing his veteran players and cost this franchise the chance to draft Brandon Roy.

Yeah, put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Man, I wish, but at some point, you have to think about the future, and IMHO, that time is now.

BTW - you youngsters may not know this, but we tanked to get Hakeem and Ralph too......so while it may not be pretty, sometimes it is effective.

Cleveland tanked to get Lebron. John Lucas admitted it.

San Antonio tanked and then got some help from Stern to win the rights to Duncan. In their only losing season since George Bush Sr. was president.

I have no problem with intentionally losing to improve our chances next year. If Stern wants to do away with tanking then maybe he should STOP RIGGING HIS DAMN DRAFTS.

I guess I disagree. I may be idealistic but I'd rather see these guys play hard and earn their minutes, and coaches figure out how to use them effectively rather than just throw the out on the court. In the long term, I think it benefits young players more when they're held accountable.

Do you think we can go 19-9 or 20-8 the rest of the regular season?

Because that's how many wins we'll need if we one of SA/Portland/Oklahoma plays ONLY .500 ball the rest of the way.

Whatever you may think of playoff experience, the problem is we're not likely to go to the playoffs.

We're not sitting in the 8th seed and in the midst of the action. We're #11 that needs to play A LOT BETTER to even have a chance.

I'm not sure if we can attain the record you mentioned, but I don't know if we'll need that many wins this year to make the playoffs. As it stands right now, we are 6 games out of the 6th spot. There are too many games left for me to disregard the possibility. Other teams have injuries and slumps just like the one our boys are in.

The notion of tanking for "next year" just irks me. What if the "plan" for next year doesn't work out and the tanking doesn't pay off? What happens then? Is it, "Wait until next year?" I just don't think the Rockets have that mindset.

Like another poster wrote, and as JVG has said, you play to win.

We did lose Brandon Roy because of a win against the Nuggets, but I don't fault JVG for coaching to win. What is the game for--to set yourself up for next year? There are too many variables for that. Offseason injuries (i.e. Monta Ellis), disgruntled players.

I'm just a proponent of playing for the season, because it is this season. Bosh, JJ, Wade and Manu aren't promising to come here as far as I know.

This argument makes no sense. So what if it doesn't pay off? If it doesn't, then I can only shrug and say, "Hey, we've tried our best. It wasn't good enough."

You're telling me that you've never done anything in life you're uncertain of? That you never tried to dress well for an interview because "it may not work out"? Or tried to take a smaller road to avoid the traffic because "it may not save time"?

There are only three things certain in life: Death, taxes, and Morey being a genius. :)

I totally agree. But I dont want to see Hilton Armstrong. I want to see Jordan Hill and Chase Budinger. And yes if make the playoffs that is EXCELLENT! I want Chase to have some of that playoff taste in his mouth before next season. Im a believer that playoff experience is something more valuable than trying to "lose" games Yes we have been saying this for the past 7 years but I really do think next season will be really special and Chase is going to be a huge asset to the success we will or wont have.

I'm not gonna lie, I've been one of the ones hoping the Rockets tank since I knew this season would be a wash, but I don't think it will happen, with Lowery and Ariza coming back.

I'll never "give up" on them.

It's just...I don't want them to intentionally lose. I just think it would benefit us in the future if we let our older guys rest and give our youngin's some time to better evaluate them.
