Nice guy, pleasant, likable……but, in my humble opinion, he was never, never, never NFL head coach material. Same for Wade Phillips. Assistant was and is their ceiling. McNair should have done his homework. Same on Schaub, he was never starting material. McNair knew how to build an organization, just not a NFL franchise. I think he has gotten a lot of bad advice. I would bring in a team of NFL consultants to study this mess and make recommendations.
Expect some assistants to be fired, not Kubes... today. Expect Kubes to be fired NEXT week. That's all I'm going to say. Tuesday?!?!?!? You posted that TODAY.
I agree with you but disagree with Kubiak. Watch some DVR'd or full game replay, and you'll see how Kubes shakes his head when receivers drop balls, but doesn't complain when Schaub throws bad passes (behind receivers, above, to their feet, etc.). This upsets me BIG TIME, man.
I couldn't believed the gave him an extension after 5 straight years of missing the playoffs.. he was the first coach in NFL history to not be fired after missing the playoffs his first 5 years with the team. It wasn't until Philips came that we made the playoffs, and it took Peyton Manning being gone to do it quite frankly. Kubiak has had this team underachieving for years. Every season I would listen to NFL analysts saying it's finally time for the Texans to win the AFC South.. just to finish 6-10.. Year after year I had to watch the Texans struggle in the end-zone.. Year after year I had to watch the Texans fail to come into the game with a sense of urgency.. sure, there would be games here and there where they played their damn hearts out. But the majority of the games it's like they weren't even giving 100% Watching running plays on 3 and 9... Watching 2 yard passes on 3rd and 12.. Hiring your best friends to be your assistant and position coaches.. I'm sick of it
His original contract went through 2010. After 2009 (9-7) it was extended through 2012. After 2011 (10-6) it was extended through 2014.
Tom Landry was given a 10-year contract extension after beginning his head coaching career with five losing seasons, which included a winless campaign and no season with more than five wins. So... pile on and all - whatever. But no need to make things up - the facts are pretty overwhelmingly awful as is.
Kubiak should have been fired today. After the loss this weekend, Kubiak's coaching record stands at a perfectly mediocre 61-61 record (including 2-2 in the playoffs). I think it's clear after EIGHT YEARS that he's never gonna deliver this city a Super Bowl record. CUT. THE. CORD. NOW.
I'm surprised at all of the people that want him fired before the end of the season. Don't you guys want a higher draft pick next season?
^^ I'm more surprised at those still hankering for some battlefightin'! I should've known there'd be some of you unable to resist clicking on the silly option--the poll is tainted! Do any of you honestly want Kubiak around for another year?? If so, please do share! I'm curious... As for the reasoning that keeping Kubiak around this season = more losses = higher draft pick... Well, I don't even like tanking in the NBA, where it actually works, so I definitely don't like it in the NFL where it doesn't really make any sense. It's not like all the talented prospects are taken in the first 10 picks and the rest of the draft is just a charade--any NFL first rounder could be a probowler level talent. Maybe tanking is relevant if we're talking about drafting a QB... which I suppose might be a possibility this offseason. (I hope not.) And wow, I couldn't refresh all my newsfeeds frequently enough today waiting impatiently for the what I was sure would be news of Kubiak's firing... and yet, nothing. Ugh.

Putting #8 in, along with the Andre Johnson / Schaub confrontation, was the final straw. Kubiak needs to go now. He has lost the respect of the players.
More specifically, he should have been fired after this game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Houston_Texans_season#Week_1:_vs._New_York_Jets Came out and played with no cohesion, no focus, nothing. They just rolled over and wagged their tail.
The (il)logical leaps some of you make... No one is comparing Kubiak to Landry. There's plenty of fuel for this fire; no need to make things up (as Pieman2005 clearly did, throwing s*** against the wall ("he was the first coach in NFL history to not be fired after missing the playoffs his first 5 years with the team.") without doing an ounce of due dilligence).
