Yeah I'm sure the point of the CJS is to mentally and physically destroy someone for what they did when they were 14 years old

this guy will come out of the prison more f'ked than he ever was when he committed those crimes at 14 years old. I'm sure he will be an outstanding member of society in the future after being someone sex slave in prison for half a decade.

the system is beyond broken and I feel for those who have their lives ruined further by going through it, I also feel bad for the people who will be victimized by the people who are released from prisons.

This. Anyone calling this karma or cheering on this outcome is sick and pathetic. Ex-Cons are eventually sent out into society worse then the way they went in.

Here's the thing, him and his buddy car jacked/assaulted someone with a gun and he was given 8 yrs probation. Which is a f-cking gift from god considering the offense. He violated his probation and was sent to prison to serve the remainder of the sentence. They don't revoke your probation for jay walking or even testing positive for drugs the first time. He must've f-cked up again.

In synthesis, sorry bro but I gives zero ****s about him being turned into a catamite.

Don't commit crimes. It's not that hard.
Non violent offenders should be forced into indentured servitude and serve the state with years and years of community service or something.

But you know that's not ethical or legal and proper reformation is expensive... Not many options here.

But that's not the point here. He's a piece of **** carjacker. He should be on his knees every day in tears of joy lucking out not robbing a man that could have shot back and killed him.

imo, anyone who uses a gun to commit a crime should get the death penalty so as far as im concerned he is getting off easy.

The premise of the book ignores the fact that no one is forcing young black men to commit crimes. Everyone is responsible for their own actions and the consequences thereof. I don't even agree with drug prohibition, but that hasn't turned me into a convicted felon, because I don't go out and trade in drugs. If a young black man doesn't want to lose his civil rights and be relegated to a lifetime status as a second class citizen, he can simply choose to walk the path of the law abiding citizen. The contrast between mass incarceration and slavery/Jim Crow should be obvious, can you determine what it is?

what you just expressed was a popular crime theory couple of hundred years ago where people still thought people with certain biological traits are more likely to be criminals.

it's easy for you to just say well every criminal should just take good choices in life and not break the law, if life was that simple we wouldn't have any criminals.

social context matters, especially for youths in their teens growing up in tough situations, and it's not just black youths in America, marginalized youths in lower classes are more likely to commit crimes and be victimized in every country.

It's especially worse when these kids who are 14-15 years old gets incarcerated in countries like America where they are exposed to more physical, mental abuse in correctional facilities and then sent back into society a couple of years later deprived of basic education and be expected be a law abiding citizen.

and then we have people who sits there and be like well they made their choices, there's nothing wrong with the system where convicted teens are raped and beaten in prison.

    *Leash....

The teen, who turned 18 over the weekend, is serving an 8 1/2-year sentence for aggravated battery, robbery and theft of a motorvehicle.

Personal responsibility is still a popular theory today, both criminal and otherwise. As an attorney in the field of criminal law, I can tell you that outside of some consideration in sentencing, the criminal justice system does not care about your background. Did you choose to rob someone, steal their car, and beat someone? If so, you go to prison. Whether you come from a rich family in the suburbs or a poor one in the inner city or out on the farm, the crux of the matter is what did you do and did you have criminal intent.
Life is that simple in the vast majority of criminal cases, and yet we still do have criminals. It turns out, many people choose to commit crimes. They are not forbidden from making good choices or tricked into breaking the law, they choose to go into crime.
Social context is a good predictor of criminality, but not the cause. If being a poor marginalized youth in the lower class caused criminality, all of the people in those situations would be criminals. They are not, just a minority that choose that path.
The book I was referring to is about how the criminal justice system is holding down young black men, not other lower classes. My comments related to that. It is probably worth noting that black youths in America commit crimes at rates far in excess of other groups, as far as your point goes though.
The abuse suffered by people in prison is terrible. Unfortunately when you commit a crime you are put in with other criminals. It is the nature of communal imprisonment. If you put them all in solitary, that would be complained about as well. Personally, I think we should dope up all of the inmates so they are shuffling around the prison in a docile state, but that idea doesn't get a lot of support.
There is something wrong with any prisoners getting raped and beaten in prison. The steps that can be taken to curtail those behaviors tend not to be supported by the people who are the most anti-prison.

This. He violated parole. First screw up might be a mistake. Second time is a choice. Choices have consequences.
