Technically, that is correct. The Rockets exercised a team option on him. The point, though, remains the same.
I think it can never happen. Damn, Luther looks really good. He has improved a lot in his ballhandlin' in his drives. Now he's not only a shooter. So Francis' got a tough situation to be.
poorly, steve come back because of yao, and he is not in rotation because yao need a soild 3-pointer, as you can see, head is better one.
I agree, that is a tough role to play well in(6-8 mins.) I don't think Francis can get into a rhythm that quick, even Luther might not be able to. Anyways, did you guys see him crossover his man for a layup for his only two points. My point is he is not a one dimensional player. Under JVG, he was but under RA we will see him burn his man and show us his all around game. He is very quick with the ball and has some nice moves. He is also athletic around the basket although he hasn't been able to show it much. If he struggles or looks lost in those short minutes then maybe we should think about the switch to see what Francis can do, but RA wouldn't be playing Luther if he though he was one-dimensional. I am glad the reins are off of Luther Head! Now I would like to see about 10-12 mins. from him.
i rather have him take rafer minutes. with steve and luther, it'll help cover up steve and luther's defense. on offense, luther is sg and steve is pg. luther, on defense, guards a pg, so he wont' get posted up every single time. and steve guards a sg, so he wont' get juked/crossed every singel time.
This is a cleverly-disguised Brooks-lover thread. If the Rockets cut Head right now, 29 teams would call his agent by the end of the hour. He 177 threes at 44% last year. That will earn you quality minutes on any team in the league.
last time i check, luther head was in the all-star sophomore team, and was in the 2nd rookie team which jacobson was not even in contention for any of them. And jacobson was cut out of the rox team while head was kept in the team. I guess that makes him better than Jacobson.
Its not Head;s minutes that steve should get, its rafer's. Luther is doing just fine, rafer is the guy that sucks ass
They need to run some plays for Luther to come off screens and cuts for jumpshots or layups, kind of like tmac does. I think he could be a player like Richard Hamilton. He is pretty quick and good at those jumpers
Luther has only played 14 minutes in the first two games. You want SF to play 7 minutes a game and bench Luther? I think Luther has played well and played better in the preseason. OBTW, Steve plays worse defense than Head and is out of shape to play in the system right now.
BrooksBall, you may be the dumbest Rockets fan I've ever come across on this board, and will be the very first person on my ignore list after all these years. He's the same height as Francis. What he gives up in weight, he makes up in speed. But considering no one ever knew what Francis really was when he played here (PG, SG?) and it is certainly less clear now, I don't see how Luther's "lack of position" is relevant to the Head vs. Francis argument. you're talking about Luther here, or Francis. What universe are you watching these games in? in extremely limited action he has 4 assists and no turnover. His assists per 48 minutes is at 13.8, good for 8th right now. Sure, it's just 2 games, but you're the one arguing that Francis should start taking those minutes for some reason. did I mention he has zero turnovers? Again, which universe are you in? the one where you've never seen Luther Head play? He's probably better suited for Adelman's offense than JVGs. His scoring may go down, but so may Yao's, or Shane's or whoever. Luther has had success in the past in various offensive schemes. Luther has played 13:53 to be exact, and in that time the Rockets have outscored their opponent by 17 points. Very very very small sample size, but given Adelman was going to play Luther over Steve anyways, you'd have to be an idiot to suggest that Steve should start taking Luther's minutes. Or that Luther has been a defensive liability, or anything really. His +/- per minute is the best in the league. Who cares if he's scored 2 points? Chuck Hayes has scored 6 points but gets 30 mpg. I'm not suggesting Chuck is the long-term solution at the 4, but I'm not suggesting Steve Novak needs to "decide" to play within the system and start taking his minutes either. There's reasons why Adelman is giving players the minutes he's giving them. Steve is being benched because he has never proven he is even capable of playing within an Adelman style system, regardless of what he "decides" to do. Luther has, and played much better in the preseason, and has been great so far this year. At least the Rockets have kicked ass when he's in the game. but hey, if you think luther sucks and francis is the answer, that's your right...i'm just not going to read it anymore.
i agree with the sentiment that its alston who steve is fighting with for time. head is to reliable a shooter. it has nothing to do with movement, it has all to do with head's jump shot, the most reliable on the team. head's place in the rotation has been set since he got on this team. the dude has a pure stroke. as much as people talk about battier intangibles which i think are soooooooooo overrated, battier's jump shot keeps him on the court. the name of the game is putting the ball in the basket, and steve will never shoot as well as luther from three point range.
Really? Where is the evidence of his improved ballhandling and driving ability. He has scored 2 pts in 2 games, partially due to Coach A yanking him because he good see his lack of effectiveness.
Please do ignore me. Who wants to talk to someone that insults another member of this forum for stating his opinion?
francis will ride the pine all season until someone gets injured. however, we all know rafer is the iron man of this team, and head and bonzi dont have much history of injury. the only way francis will get mins is if t-mac gets injured.
