Is it just me? Or do kids nowadays WANT to be a thug when they grow up? I hate seeing all these celebs in the spotlight, especially in sports like Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, and a ton more that kids LOOK up to and try to imitate that. Not even in sports, but in the MUSIC industry. Another thing, I hate how Cops are being looked upon as BAD guys. I all the time hearing people giving Cops a bad name and it shouldn't be that way at all. Whatever happened to kids wanting to be a hero as in a fireman or a policeman? Please keep this in the HANGOUT. I get my butt handed to me whenever I go in the D&D.
The NBA certainly has its share of thugs, but going by appearance and not actions is a poor way to define thuggery. As for the police, bad apples spoil the bunch in everything. That 2nd grade class where you didnt get to eat the treat because one or two kids were chatting it up. Most of the class was behaved, but just one or two ruined it.
Ten years ago, everyone wanted to be a thug too. Teenagers have always been against the man in all its forms. Why? Because they're teenagers.
Its not just thugs. Its douchebags, UFC wannabes, rockabilly'ers, hipsters, etc. That Jersey Shore show, I havent watched an episode admittedly but who are those kids looking up to? Its about anything but being regular. Cuz regularity and normalcy is like...bad and stuff. There's a kind of reality show culture out there. These kind of people are shameless self promoters that are all about broadcasting themselves. They're in your face and materialistic. Like in anything...if they get rewarded by having all kinds of hot girls going being into them, they'll keep doing it. Its their validation. Girls like jerks, so they'll keep doing jerky things. There's still kids who want to be astronauts. There's still kids who want green jobs for a better tomorrow. They just getting far outbroadcasted by these types.
I agree with you completely. Why not try to be the next Astronaut? Why not become the next Henry Thomas in E.T.? That's life for you. Just a bunch of whys!

I laugh at people who want to be thugs as well as those who point people out as thugs. Thugs are like pawn in a game of chess they are easily taken are usually sacrificed for the major pieces. Every pawn has a change of being the next queen on the board but they are usually irrelevant. Also when it comes to people claiming that some of these athletes are thugs you couldn't be further from the truth. There are few that are dangerous in the league but they are not thugs. But they have way too much power to be referred to as a thug by their money alone.
I think the main reason a lot people don't want to be a fireman or policeman is because they see the famous lifestyle on TV so that is what they aim for whether it is by acting, the music industry, or sports.
Depends on how strict your definition of thug is. Thug vs. "thug" or wannabe thug "Thug" is definitely this: Signs of "thug" to some may include tattoos, selfishness, excessive spending, and more. Nike has gone exclusively "thug" this holiday season. I am not thug or "thug" or wannabe thug. Therefore I am not allowed to buy Nike products because they are only interested in marketing to thugs or "thugs" because it's the cool thing to do. I guess I'm not cool anymore. And to Shroopy2...it's annoying that these ass clowns are all over television and looked up to/emulated. The Jersey Shore example is perfect since it's nearly impossible to decipher how in the world people would want to actually be that. But they do. It's like that in every culture. The thing is, someone or something will come along and crush these people eventually, one way or another. That could be poor health, which would lead to premature death, or simply something else coming along to take their spotlight. It's people like that (Jersey Shore) who are going to be viewed as and accepted because who they are at a perceived face value. They can't have that forever and they will become desperate and miserable soon enough. Death to infidels.
Was at the galleria today and... I am now witness to the skinny jean phenomenon. Yikes...I'm so glad that wasn't in style when I was younger. Lol.
